one more thing about these northern boys. i had to teach them the difference between a dip and a chew. one of them asked the other for a chew and he pulled out a can of skoal. i quickly explained that was a dip not a chew. :D :D
maybe next year will be better

We don't call that "pan frying", we call that "Arkansasing" a duck.
By the way, that wasn't me that said the "chew" thing. Chew to me has always been leaf cut.

Shoot'n a duck on the water is not called pan fry'n wingman, that's called "Arkansas It", at least that what us Yanks call it.

Gotta love the south though, If I could have been born anywhere but Ohio(How Bout Them Buckeyes) I would have chosen the south.

Skillet shot is not shooting a duck on the water.

Skillet shot is shooting amonkest 300 + ducks on the water

I always referred to "skillet shot" when a duck is flapping (hovering) right above the decoys looking for a place to land. In other words, a flying shot that requires no gun swing or follow through to shoot.

I'll be sure not to brag about skillet shooting anymore.

Arkansan 'em to us has always been shooting them on the water usually in the back from sneaking up on them.

Skoal here has always been "got any skoal?" Cope same thing

BuckeyeHoov, glad to have another Bucks fan here, I was born in Lancaster, but the parents soon moved to Illinois to take over our uncles farm operations when he was killed. I remember every other year going to the Illini OSU game in Champaign.

Then I went to UofI for college and sat in the students section w/my scarlet and grey clothes, that was tough. This year was the greatest and worst year of my life. Bucks won the whole thing but I got transferred out of MS(my buddies down there say it was good thing though?).

Some great people down there but I have to say if they would come here I would show them some small town areas that have the same hospitality.

Don't ever compare Chicago, New York, etc.. to the real North cause they ain't the same.

I get hooted everyday at work up here now cause those southern boys got me saying w/out y'all, fixin, and so on.

I do miss the south and would go back in a heartbeat.

I live in Pataskala so we were practically neighbors! I have a lot of friends in Lancaster. I've been telling those southerners about the horned pigs we have up here and I'm compiling some pictures of some local legends to send down via email. I believe it was one of my traveling buddies that told the boys that the war is over in Ohio and there isn't such a thing up here as a "yankee" or a "rebel". We thoroughly enjoyed the company and friends we made down there. It'd be hard to top that anywhere.

Like most Buckeye fans, I went to Ohio University (Athens). It's hard to find an actual OU fan in Athens, most root for the Bucks.

As for the Cubs, that's a shame. Lifelong Reds fan. But you gotta feel good about Dusty Baker as the new skip and Sammy reporting early. The Central is going to be tough this year.

BTW-How old are you?

You know I realized a long time ago the Cubs owners have no desire to win the whole thing.

Why would you want to pay those prices for talent when you can sell out a majority of your games, be broadcast nation wide, have damn near every movie made mention the Cubs, sell merchandise world wide and still consistently suck?

I mean almost every team is better than the Cubs, but how many Cubs hats do you see compared to other teams across the US? How many times do you hear the Cubs mentioned as compared to good teams?

It amazes me but you know what? My buddies and I will rent a bus, sell it out, go to the game and have one hell of a good time anyway, guess they got me too.

There aren't as many pheasants as there used to be. But there has been a lot of work to bring them back w/pretty good success.
We have a lot of pheasants at my parents farm so that is always a big time.
Doves, ducks, geese, turkeys, and deer(real deer) are pretty plentiful if you're willing to work a little for them.
Now I know many of you work for them ducks, but it is a bit easier down there finding them and having places to hunt then up here.(maybe not lately though)
We actually had one of our best years here in a long time for ducks. But I think it has a lot to do w/all the corn DU dumps in the fields for us :P

DY, I love the new sign off moniker!

You geographically challenged fellers should never, I mean, ever, try to fit in by using ya'll. Hell we know where your from. Be half assed proud of it, and expect to be made fun of. Don't call it a perch, or a pop, its a brim and coke... Those kind of words you can use. But when ya hit a ya'll, your faces all draw up when you say it and we know your full of $#!+. hehehe.

We had sum boys from mn down one time, 2 of them brought 4 cases a peice for a 4 day duck hunt. No $#!+. Told em the last time sum yankee slicks brought down that much ammo, we had to rebuild alanta. Dunno whut the hell they thought, if they where gonna kill 400 ducks, or they simply sucked shooting. Anyway, they kinda grinned whenever a southernism was spoken. That smug lil yankee grin that makes you wanna slap the teeth out the smiler, cause he thinks he so smart. So, bout 2 hours into the gig, we had noticed this, and just started making up the most rediculous southern expressions. 'Well, if that don't knock the cotton off the biscuit'. 'Mama always said cornbread won't rise in a house of sin'. It was funnier than hell, them guys laughing at us for being stupid rednecks, and us laughing at them for being so gullable and smug.

Had a feller from NY, a good mofo too, I liked him from the git go, down one time during a hard freeze. Well, he made it on the thaw hunt, and was blown away. 2 pair of woodies come in (rare for field hunting especially where we where at) and one pair is landing when he shoots... He cuts both woodies with that shot, and I laughed so hard I never shot at the other pair. Called him Duece Sluice after that. He was a good mofo, and I think in just a few mo hunts, Id got him to quit carrying around that big ass metal guncase ya'll all seem to have. Whut is up with that? Is that like a law up there or sumthing? travis

"Mofo". Here I thought that was northern urban lingo. I think that "pop" is all about ohio. My sister moved out east and she calls it soda. God I hate that. Sounds way too uppity.

Talk about working for ducks. We hunt our asses off fighting off stupid crowd on public land. We don't have the flooded fields and timber to hunt up here. We fight the lake and river crowds. You wouldn't believe the opening day shoot at Buckeye Lake (our local lake). It's only like 13 square miles. Very small. Anyway, folks will go out Friday morning (it always opens on Saturday) and set there boats (which we all hunt with boat blinds) and blinds on the best spot and will put lanterns in the boat. They will then leave their boat there and come back Saturday morning before shooting time. It's ridiculous. It's also not uncommon to have someone set up 60 freaking yards away and shoot over your dekes. I've almost boated over to some guys and kicked thier rears.

As for deer, we live in a county that produces the most ohio big bucks/per capita of any of the 88 counties in Ohio. Every year someone is sticking a hog or hunting one. I grew up on a 172 acre dairy farm and we had 2-3 monsters every year to hunt. Damn elusive suckers. Our pheasant population is coming back as is our ruffed grouse population. We get a lot of black ducks and tons of canadas. I understand from Country that "you guys" don't get a lot of them. I saw a field yesterday that probably had close to 3000 canadas. That is a lot of sky carp.

As for the Cubbies-with the young arms they have (god I'd love to have Pryor in the Red's rotation) and some of the bats, they might be ok. It's hard to believe they haven't won the big one in 300 years or whatever. At least you guys can spend money. The Red's are stuck at 40million for th 4th year, even though their income has gone up 20+ this year and another 20 next year (new stadium). Here's the name to remember: Austin Kearns. He will be a super star!

I thought I would throw another saying that our Northern friends should learn the meaning of.

I was in Madison Wisconsin a few years ago on business and went to a local store on State Street. When I left I told the proprietor to "Have a good 'un". He said, "a good one what".

To this day he is still trying to figure out what I said.

Okay first you were in our neck of the woods so don't try to convert us when you come up here....
Now here's one that it took a long time for me to get when I was down there. I was explaining a finance calculation to a gentlemen and he said, "do what?". I said I don't want you to anything. Anyway we looked at each other kinda funny and went on pretty soon when I got to some more difficult parts he said again "do what?".
We struggled through and at the tavern that night I asked what "do what" is supposed to mean, man we had a good laugh over that.
And yes it's tavern not bar.......
