Im looking at a piece of ground in NE Oklahoma, it has a 8 acre lake on it, but is only holds about 2 acres of water. it has rocky soil, anybody know who i could talk to about getting it to hold water? Maybe putting a clay liner in it? any help would be appreciated.

the current landowner has already contacted seepagecontrol, and they are asking 12,500 and ACRE to repair the lake. thats alot of money!

Check with the county forestry agent office. Finds out who works in soil conservation and they may be able to help or guide you to help with funding on the project. We just fixed a small pond last week that was having problems it was funded 100%by the state.If not the bentonite will do the trick but you have to drain the pond some to fix the holes . Dig back on the holes from the outside of the levee where ever it is leaking put the bentonite in the hole and cover it up. Once it gets wet it will swell up and plug the hole for sure.

It doesn't matter who you contact, linning an 8 acre pond with a rocky type soil aint gonna be cheap. Bentonite runs anywhere between $35 a ton, to $110 a ton. So we'll pick somewhere in the middle, $50 a ton. On the type of soil you've described it'll probably take between 2 and 4 lbs/sqft. So 43,560(sqft/acre) x 8 =(348,480 sqft.)x4=(1,393,920 lbs of bentonite)/2,000 lbs/ton=(696.96 tons of bentonite)x$50 a ton =$34,848/ 8 acres = $4,356 per acre. Somebody with a better idea about prices can check my math, but I still think your gonna be looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $3500 to $4500 an acre just for the bentonite.

I don't think you would have to line the whole thing in clay or bentonite.
Its probably just one spot that leaks. Does it have a dam that beavers have bored into? Are there trees on the dam? They will die sometimes and the water will follow the route of the rotting roots.
It will probably be a small flaw that can be fixed by digging it out with a backhoe and re-compacting with good fill material.
