Fella's, what do you think.....

Postby Deadeye » Mon Jan 27, 2003 9:07 am

With 2 consecutive bad years of duck hunting will do to lease prices? Do you think they will stay about the same or do you think they'll go down some?

I've talked to friends who say they are thinking about getting out of leases because of return on investment. Just curious what you guys think?

It's kind of like them stocks,

Deadeye, what kind of return are you looking for on your investment.

I heard that every duck you shot, It took a box of shells

That makes it $18 a duck.

I would feel sorry for you, but I know you have more money than sense

I'm going to see our buddy the 1'st, 2nd, and 3rd. I told him I had a case of 3.5 BBB's left over and I was coming to bust me some of them birds. I told him to have me a young man ready to beat the bushes, I wanted to shoot all day

I hope you can join us for some supper Saturday night. Can you bring me a 20oz coke?

Lease Prices

Postby Jordan River » Mon Jan 27, 2003 9:44 am

Supply and Demand. If the owners can't find folks to lease, the prices will drop. The supply is there at a certain price. What will the DEMAND be next year?

Sheeze Delta.... $18 a box. Come on man.... have you heard the Legend of the Deadeye?

I talked to your buddy Friday and told me that you were coming down. You may want to rethink shooting those 3.5 BB's at them "little birds", it starts to work on that old shoulder after a few shots. He'll treat you right down there.

I'd love to join yall for supper Saturday night but I'll be out of town all week on business. I'll have to take the lovely Mrs. Deadeye out that saturday night. Tell Reece to put you on some of them squawkin' birds... and don't let him take you snipe hunting after supper :D

Have fun and take care!

Who knows about lease prices right now. I think that the standard will be set when next season's length and bag limit is set. Then you will see what a lease is worth. Watch for the May Pond Count report. That will give some insight.

It's amazing what people will spend on a hobbie. Whether it is golf, fishing, or hunting. I think lease prices will stay the same because landowners still have the same costs. I have had many landowners tell me "If I can't get x number of dollars then I will let it sit out."

I don't think prices will change much IMO. Once you get the prices set its hard to get them to change. Its easier to raise lease prices after a banner year, but much harder to get 'em to drop after a bad year.

Hunters are gonna lease regardless, for every hunter who quits or doesn't return there is 2 more waiting to take his spot. The sport is growing and we all hope each year is better than the last so we are willing to ante-up and pay the price.

As long as a bunch of Johnny Come Lately duck hunters with way more money than sense are willing to pay exorbitant prices for duck leases, the prices will stay high...Delta landowners will let their land sit out just because they are mostly a bunch of welfare queens that think the world owes them...As long as US taxpayers bail them out with subsidies and disaster loans, Delta landowners can afford a high and mighty attitude on the surface...Of course the reality is that with the exception of good duck hunting some years and a precious few fine folks, the Delta is the armpit of America...Honestly- who would want to live there under the current conditions? The Delta is in bad shape and getting worse...Hell even the turkey and deer hunting in the Hills is now much better than in the Delta not to mention the economy and everything else...

What most of the high dollar duck lessees have not figured out is that they can pay a guide $150 per day, hunt 10-15 days a year and spend the same $2000 that they are spending on their lease while having better hunting and not nearly as much work involved...Tell the guide to call you when the ducks show up, be ready to drive in that night and then dont pay him if he gar holes you...Simple as that....

Personally, I hope the leases stay sky high and the lessees get smart enough not to pay so that the Delta landowners lose out and thus cant afford to leave crops...One of the problems with hunting in the Delta is that the few birds we have are way to spread out and hunted way to hard...Bottomline is that I am ready for the 30/3 good old days so a bunch of you DU decal toting/skybusting/no calling/avery outdoors'n/mcalister buying newcomers will find something else to do and us hardcores/long timers cant get back to enjoying our sport.

With regards to Delta Duck...

A- You are one of the precious few I was talking about but the Delta will continue to suck hind tit unless you and others run off the older generation NOW before they completely ruin the place...The deterioration of the Delta in our lifetime is a great American tragedy and it is much less to do with the downturn in agriculture than many believe...the real culprit is the generation that is currently in power and the generation that preceded them, both of which are completely unwilling to let go of their outdated ideas and get the heck out of the way for the younger generation....

B- I enjoy many things including hanging out with my wife and kids, participating in our church, hunting deer, ducks, turkeys, doves, woodcock, etc, playing tennis, snow skiing, Ole Miss sports, and many, many other things...

C- If your point is that I can be a curmudgeon...You are correct...I simply dont accept ANYTHING that can be better...Our duck hunting can be better, our deer seasons can make more sense, the quality of life in the Delta can be better, etc...I dont mind speaking my mind on these issues since they are important parts of my life and since I believe that the primary reasons these things arent better is that they are determiend largely in an out of control political process...We the People are overtaxed, overregulated and overmanipulated by a government that no more resembles that envisioned by the Founding Fathers than Anna Nicole Smith resembles Shania Twain...

D- Dont be mistaken: Like you I am an optimist but I am more than willing to call a spade a spade since I believe things only get better if you deal in reality...Many people agree with my assessments most of the time so I must be on to something even if you dont like my style...

Regarding Crow: I am involved in several different businesses that mostly involve land, timber and other natural resources, including oil...Some in the Delta, but mostly in the Hills and out of state...

Sounds like Hammer's got a bad case of the red-a$$ :x. Somebody must've made him mad somewhere down the line or either the last couple of cold days in the field hunting chaffed his booty.
Hope things get better for ya Hammer.

Tennis and Ole Miss sports? Obviously, Hammer's arguments are way too intellectual for my old buddy Delta Duck

Dammit boy!!! I justed wanted a "simple" opinion on leases. Not necessarily a discertation on the haves vs the have nots, the farmers vs the businessmen, the repulicans vs democrates, etc, etc.

Delta, I know how you can get rid of some of those stray dogs that hang around your house. On your way down to south MS this weekend, put a couple of those real nice looking ones in your kennel and drop 'em off at Hammer's house...... :D :D
