The following are a few of the pictures taken with the digital. The last few days. I managed to harvest more birds this last two weeks than I did all the rest of the season.
Put us near the 400 make for the season, Well below the norm but not as bad as last year. Rate it a firm - 4-.
This was last Saturdays morning kill. Note the Banded Canada goose. J That was the third for our group this season.
This was Saturdays afternoon hunt for me.
Sunday morning today and the last day of the season. What a way to end it. Duckhunt4 moved down the bank cause he was tired of me cutting the birds out from under him. Hehehe
Hope you had a good ending as well.

Well it depends on how you look at it. On the one hand I had some new places to hunt and I enjoyed scouting and getting to know new friends. I also hunted in a couple of other states and in some of the most beautiful and pristine places.............everything from flooded green timber to brackish coastal marshes. On the other hand I killed fewer ducks than I ever have. Even one of my old standby holes that I keep just for bad year emergencies let me down. So to answer your question:
Rating by # ducks killed.........................................2
Rating by aesthetics of the hunting experience.........8
In a perfect world we would be successful in both...........

I will not rate a sport that I love. I,m in for the long haul.
I did not kill limits everyday, hell some days I did not kill a duck.
I did get to meet some great guys this year. I've got some great memories of this season. I'm going to name some names and hope I don't leave some of them out. I got to hunt with Injun23, Gadwall2, OleBuffelhead, Duck Slayer, Tmoore. These are just a few new friends.
One special hunt was with Scooter and his son Steven. It was special for me to be with a young man on his first Greenhead harvest.
I got to take my 8 year old baby girl this afternoon. We got in the blind about 1:00, The sun was shining the hole had opened up, the birds were flying. It was a good friend, myself, Samantha, and of course Delta @ 5:30 we had 12 mallards, 1 Bull sprig, and 2 wood ducks. We really had a great time.
I want to thank the Good Lord for this sport, and the great things that come from Duck Hunting.

Bad season...about the 4th-5th consecutive of mediocre or worse years....I would rate it about a 3 out of 10........
But in all honesty....I guess I would drive to the hunting camp, grill steaks, cook breakfast and hang out...even if there were NO ducks !!
Anybody have plans for the youth hunt weekend ??
Can it get any worse ?

I'll be the optimist and give it a 10! No, we didn't shoot many mallards..in fact, we didn't shoot many ducks at all, but we did shoot birds and had no accidents-that makes it a 10.
I got to meet many new people as well...folks from GA, SC, FL and a pile of hunters from MS. I met some of the guys from the Christian Hunters and Anglers Association from Tyler, TX, and had a 3 day hunt with repeat customers and good friends from OH. We filmed with MS Outdoors Saturday, and had a decent mallard shoot to show for it.
But most importantly, I watched the sunrise many a day this season. This year was twice as good as last year, but not nearly as good as other years. The weather is the deciding factor that determines whether or not we have ducks...not DU, or DW or the USFWS...so we might as well accept the fact and live with it. Whenever you are dealing with wild animals and mother nature, you'd better get ready to be outsmarted more times than not.
But we are all hunters and we enjoy the sport for the experience.
Until next time....

Wasn't the worse season I've ever seen, but near. Hunted more days than ever before, shot less than 20 fewer ducks than last year. Hunted witha lot of new and old friends and shot ducks 95% of the time. Put 9-month old pup on 64 retrieves, which was less than hoped for but helped her learn a little about what it was all about. Left the field with totally full straps only 7 times, but managed to get some shooting every day. What disappointed me was not seeing 1000's of ducks, ducks everywhere. The migration just never materialized, or if it did was not what it used to be. There were ducks, but not once did we work any very large flocks. Have already started pulling together materials for a new blind for next year; have seed ordered and already beggining to ready for next year!

The season worked out well for me. I did not hunt nearly as much as seasons past, but the hunts I did go on were pretty good. There was only one day my brother I and did not fire a shot, but there were times we could (should) have.
Saw more pintails this season than in years past, but for the first in as long as I can remember I did not harvest a single gadwall. My brother got his first bull sprig on our last hunt.
The water level was very co-operative and I wade-hunted only twice this year (that was good because I tore my waders right on the boot the first time). This past week the level dropped enough to wade again and I couldn't see buying a new pair so late in the season, so I patched them with duck tape. I got one more hunt out of them!
On my last hunt Wednesday there were very few ducks flying, but we managed to get several good flights that we did see to decoy and we took a limit of mallards, plus that bull sprig.
I give this season a 7.

This year I hunted at least twice as much as last season. Last season I hunted public land in TN only and could not hunt but three days a week due to TWRA restrictions. Based on the # of birds harvested Iwould have to give this season a 2. Based on the amount of laughs, good times and fun in general I would have to give it a 9. Theres always next year to improve on the first #. Now its time to get after the fish!
