Freaks come Out at NIght

Postby Blackduck » Wed Aug 01, 2007 8:51 pm

I'm not talking about any of you smacktards around here (GH22 or otherwise) but some of the critters that I ran upon the other night. I was out in the yard around midnight taking care of some emergent water issues and snapped a few pics of some fairly weird creatures.

I was trying to get as close to the spider as I felt comfortable (cussing myself for not having a SLR with a good zoom lens) when my wife noticed the pretty slug. Great Grey Slug or tiger slug.

Yea, not trying to state the obvious, but it might now be a good idea to knowingly let black widow spiders coexist in your back yard. I understand people don't like senseless killing, but deadly insects at your home merit no protection IMO.... especially with children or pets who may or may not know to stay away

I had to remove the cover of the water meter in the front yard to shut the H20 off for the house. When I did the spider ran up her web and scared the stew out of me. I really could have bitten me I guess when I removed the cover. Regardless I took a few quick pics then smashed her in to oblivion with the 15" wrench I was holding. I'm definately not letting venemous creatures hang around with my kids.

I know how you feel. I was installing a new sink in my bathroom When I went to turn the water off there were 3 of them big girls in there. and a the bottom was covered with some the size of a pen head. I couldn't find any insect spray, so I grabbed my wifes hair spray and my zippo. FLAME broiled spider!!! :D

wish i could post pictures.
i'm just now healing from a spider bite.
i don't remember when it happened , so probably in my sleep, but it sure did a number on me.
Middle finger, halfway up, right hand. started out as just a little bump. I tried to pop the bump, "BEARDED CLAM" came out, and it would get bigger each time. by the third day, i had a bullseye surrounding the bite, and a big "BEARDED CLAM" pocket. It was very sore, but it was on a sunday night when it swelled up (double the normal size of my finger), so i didn't want to miss work and went in as usual. About 8 in the morning, my finger, the two fingers next to the infected finger, and on down a couple of inches on my knuckles were swollen and blue, they also hurt to bad to move, i had a temperature of 101.
Went to the doc and he popped it, drained it, and gave me a shot in the wound. also gave me some antibiotics.
That was last monday when i went in. It did not show the slightest sign of improvement until Tuesday of this week. Hallucinations at night, severe fever, nausea.
The doc said there is virtually no way to tell what type of poison I had in me, unless he had a dead spider in the office with him to analyze, or an accurate description of the spider. He did say that it was defenately not a black widow--as a black widow bite is extremely painfull, immediately noticable, and can often times cause parallyses in a matter of minutes. Said a black widow or brown recluse bite can put a grown man down; if, especially if he does not know what he has been bit by (ie: at night when sleeping) or when.

Anyway. I would kill that evil thing.
