I am pretty sure that you don't start heart worm meds like ivomec till they are 6 months.
I may be wrong.

Thank you. I have held off because I wasn't sure when to give it to the pup.

I may be getting my frontline info mixed up with my heartworm info, but the frontline box says 12 weeks is old enough to start.

My vet told me to start heart worm meds when they get their last set of shots.

That confirms it.
The last set comes at 6 months.

I guess different vet have different systems. My last set was at 16 weeks for my little female. He said she would be good for a year, and told me to start heart worm meds......

If this pup is outside at all, it needs to be on heartworm preventative.

MDpilot is correct , I've got a new pup and when we went in for his second round of shots ( 9 weeks ) Doc started him on heartguard .

Wingman call the vet and ask , it ain't hard at all for a dog to get heartworms these days .

Ivomec

Postby Sundown49 » Fri Aug 03, 2007 11:19 am

:D I start my pups at 12 weeks on Inomec dilututed with polypropolene glycol . A dose is 1 cc per 20 pounds body weight. If I can find it I have a measurement given to me by Dr. Ed Aycock of Trumarc's and I will post it here.

What is the dilution ration of Ivomec / polypropolene glycol??

I would like to know why you dilute it with the poly glycol.

I probably did a fool thing, but I gave her .3cc of ivomec and a 7 in 1 shot on same day.

3 days of dilated pupils and lots of sleeping before she was feeling normal again. It smoked the intestinal worms, but it was obviously too much medicine.
