I'm from Greenville, MS, and recently had the pleasure of meeting several groups of hunters from SC. They were nice guys. Either I didn't meet Massa Bates, or he changed his opinion of MS. Either way, Mr. Bates, just don't come back! There'll be more birds for me next year!
As for the "Ol' Man", I do a LOT of catfishing out there, but I have'nt duck hunted out there in 20 years. Too much can go wrong on the river. Too many have drowned 'cause a storm popped up. 4 foot swells aren't uncommon in the winter. I've seen 8 - 10 footers in the summer, but only rarely. The only thing I know, for sure, about that river is, You had damn well better respect it, 'cause if you don't, the Ol' Man gets upset, and he WILL take something from you. Better hope it's not your life!
To all the other guys from South carolina that come all the way over here to hunt: thank you for coming over and spending some money with our local merchants, and thank you for being sportsmen! I understand you guys don't have many ducks to hunt, and right now, neither do we, but it IS called hunting. Several trips this year (more than i want to count!), I've been blanked. I keep on going 'cause it's beautiful watching the sunrise, whether there's birds flying or not, and my yellow lab LOVES going hunting!
