I use 0.1 cc/40 lbs of body weight monthly for heartworm control, and once every 6 months up it to 0.1 cc/10 lbs for parasite control. This is the 1% injectable liquid. Be sure and keep it in the fridge.

Tell me this guys. I have been giving the paste. I have been giving it by the poundage on the side of it. The tube has a device on it to set the dosage by and two clicks is a 100# dosage and that is what I have been giving mine. Is this ok or has anyone given paste before?

0.1cc/10lbs of 1% injectable. Overdosing is not as critical as I once thought. My vet has one of my dogs (70lbs) on 1.0cc PER DAY for the next 50 days for "possible" demodex. that's about 50 times the normal heartworm dose i figger!

A few years ago I was giving missy .07cc for demodex and she weighed @ 45 lbs. (at least that's how much I think I remember giving her)

What do you mean by this "Demodex", Never heard the term, is this some heartworm treatment to kill them like the big treatment at the vet??

Demodeptic mange or red mange. It is non contagious and is usually gotten from the mother dog and will pop up during times of stress.

We give 0.1 mL/10 pounds of body weight on the same day of each month. We have never had heart worms. Vet says that it being given on the same day of each month is VERY important. The larva are only susceptible to the ivomectin, if you wait more than the 30 days the larva can mature to a point that they are no longer killed and thus heart worms. Same applies to heart guard.

Also you can over dose a dog on Ivomectin. I have seen this happen 2 times both of which were not pretty things.

I only do the 2 or 2 1/2 click thing on the paste. That is what I've been told by people that I know that have used it for years on their dogs. I've been using it for a few months and have not noticed any ill effects on the dogs. I sure hope it's working!!

I read where you say you can overdose a dog on ivomectin? I am guessing this is going to be by giving way to much of a dosage at once.

The reason I ask is that I only give the two clicks of the paste but I do this every 24-26 days. I had heard about them maturing in 30 days so I am shoot for 24 but sometimes do not get it done until the 25 or 26th.

I was just making sure that you guys thought this would probably be alright?

I have never used the paste only the injectable, but squirt it in the mouth. I can buy a 50 mL bottle and it will do my 6 dogs for about a year.

If you are getting them treated before the 30 days you should be fine. I do mine on the 20 of every month come hell or high water.

I am not sure how much it takes to over dose a dog but i will find out and let you know. Got a few friends who are about to gradute from vet school i will ask them.
