Pure Black Duck or a Mallard cross???

Postby HattiesburgStockBroker » Thu Jan 16, 2003 2:31 pm

Earlier this year we killed a pair of black ducks. they seemed to me to be a Drake and a hen. I've read some of you talking about Black Duck/Mallard crosses. How can you tell the diff.?????

Thanks, I believe they were pure black ducks. Either way they are still gonna make a great mount. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

i killed a black two years ago and the taxedermist explained it one of the purest black ducks hed ever mounted

this bird has a yellow bill just like shown on the aforementioned website

this months edition du has a black duck on pg 62 and it says a pure black has an olive colored bill

im sure the duck i killed wasnt a mottled but the bill was definitely yellow

never seen a black with the olive bill? did yours have olive bills?

what gives?

We shot a pair of black ducks 4 years ago. The bills were a bright yellow/green color (maybe that's olive). The only difference that I noticed was that the drake was a good bit larger. I shot the drake by chance.

TD I've already taken them to the taxidermist, and as of now I've not seen any of the pictures, Exactly what color they are I can't say. Wish I could remember more? In the excitement of the moment you tend to miss the details. The morning that we killed the 2 blacks, we also killed 17 mallards, 2 gadwalls and a woody.
