The best site I have found is accuweather.com. They give a long range forecast and an hourly forecast as well as past 24 hr rainfall amounts.

well accuweather was predicting snow/rain mix for around the 13th, now they have changed that to cloudy with above freezing temps.. I have had several times this year when those 15 day forecasts have gotten me all fired up and then as it gets closer the forecast gets worse (at least for moving any ducks) so I have pretty much given up on hoping for those 15 day forecasts..
I put more stock in the 1 and 2 day forecasts, weather channel so highs into the 60s all the way into freaking North Dakota for the next couple days.. I know some of you are shooting some ducks and more power to you, but I hunt moderately hard and ain't shootin crap.. I'm tired of just being out there to watch the sunrise.. I think about the only hope is that maybe the last week of the season will be good.. ah well just a little good natured bitchin.. next year will have to be better (but then I'm pretty sure I said that last year about this time).. but some year it will be better I'm sure of that

Browndog, it will get better after about 3 restrictive seasons and if we start raising ducks in the breeding grounds. Raising ducks is the biggest problem. As long as hens are getting @15% nesting success, duck numbers will not increase. Thats why everybody needs to support Delta Waterfowl. The predator mgmt program they have formulated works, they hen houses they put out work, adopt-a-pothole works. Most of the dux are raised on private land, not great big "duck factories". And one program that has been hard for everyone to comply with this year, Voluntary Restraint.

While I'm taliking about VR, lets run some numbers.

-100 hunters restrain from killing 5 hens each during one season. Thats 500 more hens that make it back to the nest.
-15% of those hens raise there hatch. Thats 75 hens with 12 ducklings. Thats 900 new birds in the flight nest year. And half of them are hens. Don't forget @ the "passed" hens that will return in the flight nest year.
-Now, you got roughly 750-850 hens in the flight and you got the same 100 hunters that pass on all the hens again. Lets use 750 for a more realistic number.(We all know that not everyone is going to pass on them)
-750 x 15%= 112 hens x 12 ducklings= 1344 new birds.(half hens)

Guys over 5 years those 500 passed hens could turn into 10000 ducks. The nature of compounding numbers will prove it if you do the math. (This was done in a hurry, so I may be a year off or have some "fuzzy math" myself, but you get the jist)

Now if half the hunters in all states would just pass on those hens what would the duck numbers be in two years. I guarantee we wouldn't be sitting here complaining about duck numbers. Instead we would be sitting here beating our chest like a big ole silver back gorilla saying-"I am man, I kill meat for family" (hunter-gatherer instinct taking over)

But we all know that ain't the real world. But what is so intriguing about it is that it could be.

Bottom line- listen to Delta Waterfowl. They got some good gords in that think tank.

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.
