sperry's-not gonna lie but ive been wearing them since i was 12 (10 yrs ago) and i noticed that once they got popular down here and a few grads older and same age went off wearing everyones wearing them now, not saying we started it but im not sayin we didnt and yes i still own a pair
croc's-not gonna lie started wearing them after a buddy of mine came down from school and i tried them on but then i figured out there better on a boat 30 miles offshore than sperry's
I LOVE this post as they have been around forever and I got my first pair around 1976(when I was 16, so yes, I am an old fart) and used them for their intended purpose, SAILING. They were the first around and the guy came up with the idea when he noticed his chihuahua(taco bell dog) did not slip on the fiberglass deck when healed over in rough weather. He looked at the dog's foot pads and noticed a zig zag patteren of slits and did that to the soles of his boats shoes till he had the right depth and pattern.
They do work on slippery wet decks. I even have a pair of sailing boots by Sperry for winter time sailing. I'll bet a few guys on the "Deadliest Catch" have those or Helly Hansen boots to workout on those decks.
As far as that goes, you have more choices that just Sperry now as you can get Helly Hansen as mentioned, Timberland, and a few others that make a boat/fishing shoe. Some styles look like running shoes etc.
A guide we had out of Shell Beach LA last year was wearing Crocs and said all the guides were wearing them as they were comfortable and could be hosed off and you are good to go!

Mudsucker, In vouge back then before I knew what a frat boy was!

if ya stand on a sewer grate in late July you can get that same pattern on the bottom of your feet. Those zig zags do add traction. Oh Mudsucker, you can't get those on your feet you aint on the bank long enough.

Think I had a pair when I was in Junior High... But that is when they were cool (mid 80's). They still look dorky to me.. I know my son is gonna laugh his head off if he ever sees a pic of me with them on..

I think several ( if not more ) of you boys were gay before you bought those shoes . I'll leave it up y'all to figure out who is and who ain't  However , if you have research that proves that it was in fact the shoes that made you gay please do post it up and I'll be sure to stay away from them .

I have a pair of Island Pro flip-flops that I wear when I deep sea fish. They have gray non-marking soles and are very comfortable... and they don't look "fratty" at all.

It's harder to get a matching purse for Sperry's!

Hate to break it to you boys down in 'Goula, but we were wearing Sperry's in the '60's in the delta. Shoot, I wore a pair of Top-siders to my 8th grade dance! ...with my white pants and madras jacket! 8)
