Baseball inching toward tourney
Posted by Paul Gattis -- The Huntsville Times May 13, 2007 9:02 PM
For the second time in the past three weekends, Alabama has won series over teams ranked in the Top 10. And it appears that the Tide will be in Hoover for the SEC Tournament.
But it's not a done deal.
After whipping No. 6 Arkansas 9-5 Sunday to win the series, the Tide is 13-14 in SEC play and in seventh place in the league. The top eight teams, of course, qualify for the tourney.
LSU and Kentucky are tied for eighth with matching 12-14-1 records. But LSU must play at top-ranked Vanderbilt next weekend to close the season, perhaps the most daunting scenario any team could imagine. Kentucky, meanwhile, has the most advantageous situation -- playing last-place Auburn at home.
The only other threat to Alabama is Tennessee at 11-14 and the Vols must play at Florida.
The bad news in all of this for Alabama is that it must play at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are 14-11 after losing a doubleheader at struggling Georgia. But it doesn't matter who Alabama plays -- it just matters where. The Tide hasn't won an SEC road series in four tries this year, including at Auburn.
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!

SAYban, was spotted in Houma, La. looking at some local talent today. Then he went and saw a kid mess around with a football!
