Gulf Coast

Postby L.H.III » Mon Dec 16, 2002 10:02 pm

My Mom and Dad just moved to Ocean Springs. When I come for Christmas, I am planning on going up to the delta or La., but if I were to hunt somewhere around the coast, what would be my best bet? Is Pascagula worth it? Also, I need to find some huntin buddies out there. Maybe we can hunt sometime after x-mas. Any Info is greatly appreciated.

I fish back bay around Cedar Lake Exit/Woolmarket Exit, near I-10 and in the marshy areas I see a lots of teal. I gather you can still hunt this area even though it is annex into Biloxi. I do not hunt the area but friends I know living adjacent to the area complain about the early morning shooting. Ask the guys who run the bait stands and boat launch locations on the rivers too. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info. Crowell. Do you ever see any big ducks back there?

Only teal and woodies. No big ducks. That's one reason I hunt in the delta.

I don't know if this is reliable but I was told that duck hunting around the mouth of Biloxi/Tchutacabuf rivers was grandfathered in acording to the game wardens. However, Biloxi police and Harrison County could get you for discharge of firearms in city limit/ or bird sanctuary. I have not been able to check--sounds sticky to me. Same goes for shooting divers around Deer Island. Or Goose hunting on Cat Island ( I think it was bought and now is part of Nat'l Seashore- no hunting!). Area north of Interstate 10 on pascagoula could get sticky. Ward Bayou of course is WMA. Upper and lower Pascagoula WMA has lots of woodies. All marsh on east pearl is supposed to be private, also. :?:

Sounds pretty complex to me. In Ga. if it ain't posted, its yours to hunt all you want. If it is navigable water, then it is legal to hunt. If there aren't any big ducks, I won't sweat it and just head to the delta. Gulf Coast, if you know something about the regs., please fill me in. Thanks for the info gentlmen.

LHIII, you'll love the people of the great state of MS, my home state! Greatest folks in the world...unless you ask them too much about their duck holes! Hope your folks enjoy the move. There are two Mississippi's to enjoy...the coast and the rest. Then you have the delta which is a special place all its own. I can't wait to move back myself!

Sorry, been out of town for about a week. I know people hunt the mouth of the Biloxi, but I do not know if it is legal. The Pascagoula marsh has a few birds or a lot of birds (about twice in the season) depending on the weather. Best thing to do is send me an e-mail.

LHIII, I live in Gwinnett County and work for the school system here. You from over on the coast, looks like. I hunt here in GA only a couple of times a year. Hard huntin' and not too consistent.

I know what you mean Crow. I am from the coast and do most of my hunting around the Altamaha, Rhett's Isl., etc. We have had a decent season on the coast with good numbers of teal, widgeon, grey ducks and mottled ducks, and when the puddlers aren't here, we always have the divers. I take a few guys from up around your area alot on the coast. Let me know if you are ever interested in coming down and I will put you on some birds.

GulfCoast, I sent you an e-mail. I appreciate the help guys.
