Right now I'm using an SP-10 with a Jelly Head choke and Nitro shells. It'll definitely do the job.  Got that mother putting 334 pellets in an 8" cirlce at 40yds.

Ya'll are killin' me! I'm not bothered by the weight of the gun as much as the thing just being so damn bulky on my back. It ain't exactly convenient for sneaking thru the woods and it sure ain't convenient for sitting quiet and still while waiting him out.
If you want to know the truth, I'm just looking for an excuse to buy a new gun.

I looked at the 835 Tactical, but I don't really want one with the pistol grip. I was looking at these two:

The differences are the 835 w/ the thumbhole is .5lbs lighter, has .5" shorter pull length, has about .5" less comb drop and is laminate. Plus, it costs ~$100 more.

Anybody ever shot a shotgun with the thumbhole in the stock?

Ok, I must be the cheapest s.o.b. on here, but I use the Mossberg 500-A. When I got it from Wally World, they were marketing it as a 'turkey special' because it came with a XX-full turkey choke. I'm not a turkey hunter, but it is light, dependable, doesn't kick too bad, and I can usually hit what I'm aiming at. All my other shotguns have now been pretty much relegated to the case because of this gun. And yes, it can chamber a 3" shell.

You are just practical. Like me. But if I have any weakness, it is buying guns. I like gun shopping!!!!!

That gun is awesome, but kills on BOTH ends, if you know what I mean.

i had an 870 super mag wit the 23 inch barrel, it's a good gun and i killed several turkey's with it... i recently sold it for an 835 ulti-mag and i love it!!! it's a lil bit heavy but nothin worth complaining about, i got it a week before season and it's second trip to the woods it dirt rolled a bird! :D if you want somethin lightweight then i'd go with the 870 but overall performance i think the 835 is a bit better

Considering that I've been carrying an 11 pound gun around, I think either of them will feel light as air across my back.

Is the recoil on the 835 that much more than the 870?

Yep, and I'll never trust a gun that has a safety on the topside of the receiver. My mossy .410 will click off safety without me even touching it.

You got to be kidding me. Anyone who has patterned enough know every gun is different. I usually get the job of patterning friends guns every year out of my vice and I can tell you I have taken 870's, 835's and novas and shot the same load choke combo and can come up with different results each time. Best pattern I have ever seen came from an 870.

I like the feel of a thumbhole stock in the store, but how are you going to switch to shoot lefthanded when a bird silently circles you. I just dont think it is praticle, thats just me though.

Chuckle in my experience it is, but shooting at a turkey you will never notice it. I believe there is something to the balance of Mossberg that make them that way. I have an old 500 at that I use for a personal defense gun in the house. I have been thinking about changing just in case my wife may have to use it b/c I dont know if she could get a second shot off.

After reading everytrhing I could about these guns and talking it over LOTS of folks, I think I'm gonna go with the SPS-T (unless I can find an O/U that I like within my price range). As for the 835, I don't really want to go with a barrel that's only 20" long. As easy as it would be to maneuver in the woods, I'm worried about the pattern that a 20" barrel will throw. Also, I don't want a gun that's not comfortable to shoot on a regular basis. Thanks for all the input.
