i had an 870 super mag wit the 23 inch barrel, it's a good gun and i killed several turkey's with it... i recently sold it for an 835 ulti-mag and i love it!!! it's a lil bit heavy but nothin worth complaining about, i got it a week before season and it's second trip to the woods it dirt rolled a bird! if you want somethin lightweight then i'd go with the 870 but overall performance i think the 835 is a bit better
You got to be kidding me. Anyone who has patterned enough know every gun is different. I usually get the job of patterning friends guns every year out of my vice and I can tell you I have taken 870's, 835's and novas and shot the same load choke combo and can come up with different results each time. Best pattern I have ever seen came from an 870.
I like the feel of a thumbhole stock in the store, but how are you going to switch to shoot lefthanded when a bird silently circles you. I just dont think it is praticle, thats just me though.
Is the recoil on the 835 that much more than the 870?
Chuckle in my experience it is, but shooting at a turkey you will never notice it. I believe there is something to the balance of Mossberg that make them that way. I have an old 500 at that I use for a personal defense gun in the house. I have been thinking about changing just in case my wife may have to use it b/c I dont know if she could get a second shot off.
