Mark, it depends on what part of town you will be in.
Bonefish Grill is awesome. (the new Collierville mall)
Ya-Ya's in Germantown is nice / upscale
Crescent City has great New Orleans style food
Texas de Brazil is a chain, ... you better go there hungry.
Paulette's in Overton Square
Mr. B's
The Butcher Shop has a killer steak

Grill 83 inside the Madison (great bone in ribeye)
McEwins
Stella
Felicia Suzanne's
LoLo's
Blues City (get your grub on)
Texas de Brazil is great if you have never been, but you can get better food for the money. Also, if your like me and don't have any self control, you will be so full you won't feel like doing a damn think afterwords, except sitting on the jon with a pinch of snuff.
all of these are within walking distance of Main and Union.
East:
Folks Folly (good Steakhouse)
Belmont (bar/grill and my favorite place to eat in town)
Half Shell, across the streat from Belmont and similar food
all three are these are within the same block of Poplar Ave., around the 5000 block.
My office is within walking distance to belmont and half shell, i eat at both several times a week, and they always good. Im also about a minute from folks folly, which i think is along the lines of rendevous as far as tourist trap and food quality. In my experience, it just is not that good. Theres a bunch of cool restaurants in mid-town, ive been going to the soul fish a lot lately. I also concur on stella, its always darn good. If you can handle the techno music, bluefin downtown is good and the chicks dig the place.
