Jesse used to be the Conservation Officer for that area, so he has access to a lot of property. A friend and I both shot two nice marriams by the end of the second day. Since we still had a few days until our flight left and we were limited out in SD, he put us in touch with a guy who let us hunt his ranch in northern Nebraska for free (about 2-3 hours away). They also have a ton of prarrie dogs up there, so bring a rifle for something to do if you limit early. I can get his # if your interested in speaking with him.

Jesse has worked a lot with Ron Dube who is one of the top elk and sheep guides out of Wapiti, Wyoming.

buckwheat of the "God forsaken hills"??? DANG, you get around

yeah, i'm interested in teh number......just taking a look around and i think i missed the application cutoff date for most of sodak........but, there IS still the blackhills area or montana's zone 7/missouri breaks to think about.

thanks, gator

Gator,

You can still apply for a Black Hills tag just make sure you send your application in plenty of time before you come out. You can only get one turkey with a Black Hills tag which kinda sucks..

You can buy 3 OTC tags in Nebraska. there is a $#!+ oad of birds around Chadron which is only about 2 hours south of Rapid City.

Yes Merriams are dumber than Easterns but ther terrain is more dificult to hunt them in..I livei in Rapid City, SD...any of yall comin out PM me if you have any questions.

BUCKWHEAT wrote:Your right about all of the drinking. At just about every three way intersection you will see a pile of wrecked cars where some drucks thought the road kept going straight. The place is a bit like a third world country, but there are a pile of turkey. I met Bam, didn't hunt with him at all. Ron is quite the interesting fellow. While a bit odd, he is damn good at what he does. I've booked an elk hunt with him for Sept. 2008 just outside of Yellowstone.

Yes, Ron is very odd, but 90% chance you WILL kill a good elk. He's one of the best out there...nothing is guaranteed  Good luck!!
