I'm a new duck hunter looking for some help!

Postby Mississippi Mallard » Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:26 pm

I just started duck hunting this past year. I hunt in Vicksburg, and I mainly hunt the WMA Mahanna. I know that there are a ton of other WMAs around Mahanna. I was wondering if anyone could tell me some good places to go to on any of the other WMAs. Also, if anyone could recommendsome good calls to get whether they be single or double reed.

I recommend Chickasaw WMA and Southern Game Calls, either single or double reed. They don't sound really good, which is what will separate you from the rest of the pack and help put ducks on your strap at Chickasaw. The ducks tend to respond more to calls that don't sound good, ie SGC's.

youll have trouble findin help with WMAs on this site but i can help with calls.

if your a beginner learnin to call the best advice i can give is START WITH A SINGLE REED. i blow RNT and i have found them to be the best for me, just blow a bunch of calls and blow what you sound best with

or you can take a SGC and make it sound good through skill, talent and practice. or just get an echo and sound like every other joe blow who cant blow a call out there. Ha HA Ha just try out a bunch of calls and get the one you think you sound best on. Champcaller can run the hell out of those RNTs that he blows and Echo calls sound awesome too. i have never blown one that i havent liked. By the way this economics class im in right now is quite boring.

I bought an original RNT before this past season. I've practiced just about every day since I got it, and I like the sound that it has. I just wanted to know about some other calls to look into.

I've got an Echo that will make you say SGC Who? If you don't believe me, ask champ. He'd switch from RNT to Echo if I'd let him have the call, which ain't happening.
