Advice on autoloaders

Postby Blackduck » Mon Nov 18, 2002 8:36 am

I was looking the other day at some autoloaders in a local gunstore. A gentleman who I had always had favorable dealings with said that to "break in" and autoloader you had to shoot 300+ rounds through it. Kinda like breaking in a diesel engine. After 10000 miles they are a whole new engine. I wanted some other opinios on how many rounds does in take to get an autoloaders's parts working in good condition? It was about a hundred for the ole 870 pump before it smoothed out.
Is it different for different guns?
Which brand has worked the best for you?

My benelli sbe will now shoot those light 7/8 oz shot cheap dove loads and never miss a beat. When I first got it, it wouldn't do that...I am not sure when it got broke in to this point, but it is 5 years old now and has shot several cases of 3 1/2" shells through it.

BD -

My Winchester 3.5" SX-2 shot light trap and heavy 3.5" loads from the very first shot. I have never had a hull hang-up or not completely eject since the day it came out of the box from the factory.

After you strip a new gun of the factory crud, It should do whatever it's gonna do, right-out-of-the-box....If not, something is wrong....

Buy the Beretta. Took mine out of the box and ran a box of 7/8 light loads through it with no problem. Have shot all range of shells through it with no problems whatsoever.

Buddy took his Rem. 1187 out of the box and had to shoot several boxes of 1 1/8 loads through it to get it to eject. Still won't shoot 7/8 after a year.

Buy the Beretta.

I've got a Benelli super 90. It came here shooting the 7/8 oz. shot. I would have thought something was wrong if it had not. I would say taking care of a gun is important if you intend to use it for many years. I have taken many guns that would not auto and cleaned them up real good only to see them work like new again. It does make a difference.

I have a Benelli Super 90 and I have NEVER had it miss a lick. It is the smoothest shooting auto made. PERIOD! My advise is to dish out a little extra and get the best.

I own the Binelli SBE, a Rem 1100 a Nova, an 870 Super mag and the WinX2.

The SBE is an inertia gun vs. gas operated by the other auto loaders. It is very light and very reliable and is a killing machine.
The WinX2 is the best auto loader shotgun on the market today for the money, period!!!
THe Nova is the best pump bar none.

I have two sons 19 and 23. Youngest won't let me touch the WinX2 and he is a pure duck killer with that thing. The Oldest loves the SBE and I mainly shoot my ole 1100 with the new steel barrel from cabelas, that allows you to shoot 3" steel loads in it. When I hunt without the the boys for ducks I shoot the X2, when I hunt geese I shoot the SBE. If your budget is tight buy the X2 from Bass Pro when they run the sales on it and if money is no object you cannot go wrong the the SBE / Case closed :)

on the subject of best auto for the money---i'm using a eaa baikal mp-153 gas auto this year, 3 1/2"--shot a case of 1 oz. dove loads and have shot about 3 boxes of steel 3 1/2" through it, no malfunctions--fits me great and patterns super with imp. mod. choke--for $280 plus shipping, you just can't beat it for a duck gun imo--made in russia, by the way--check it out at eaacorp.com
you did put in the plug, right?
