This really happened......Sat 8:00 am......

Postby walt333ms » Mon Nov 25, 2002 11:47 am

Let me set the stage for this quick hunting story........

players......four duck hunters... walt ..bill--clark--ralph..
and one ole dog(sam)....

location......lower delta--lage cypress slough.......very thick...small open hole...so when ducks come in they are close...real close...

Three of the four hunters were hunting from a 10x12 foot platform with no cover...just sits under big cypress trees....completely open with small cypress trees in the front........(be still and dont look up...

Sam and I are on smaller open platform 20 feet away(behind and left).......

called in a few wigons that landed 20 in front of the blind...group of mallards were following.......mallards came on down.....bang...bang....bang....it was raining greenheads.....

one wigon decided that after the shooting was over this was not a good place to be....got up and flew at the larger platform....coming straight
at ralph....ralph could not get a bead on the oncoming target......the duck was struck on the head with the gun barrel....fell to the platform....walk around a sec...and knew that this was not a good place to be either....
scurred off the back of the blind.....swam so close to the boat that no one could shoot.....went behind a cypress....and away he went.......

now the laughfter and commotion after this event will be remembered for years to come....and retold over many fireplaces.....duckblinds...ect..

my only comment after was..."that was the only "trash" duck that got away that I would have loved to have gotten and mounted....because no one would believe that no shot was fired....

take care.....stay careful....

walt and sam....

Trash duck huh. I personally never considered a widgeon a trash duck.
Interesting how some people see birds. :(

I would shoot those trash ducks anyday.

I'll take a Widgeon anytime. No such thing as a trash ducks to me. There are simply ducks that I shoot and ducks that I don't shoot.

Crazy story! But I don't think bandits are trash ducks either. They taste the same as mallards to me.

You and I may have seen the same bird. We were hunting out of a boat blind in about 3 1/2 feet of water and I had just shot a gw teal. I was walking out to get it and look to my left to see a widgeon cupping in. I looked down for a sec and then peeked back to see it still coming right at me. I pulled up and shot, fearing a collision, and the bird was about 10 ft away from the end of my barrel. I don't know where I hit (def not the bird), but it buzzed straight over my head. Luckily I gathered myself for the next shot and pulled it out of the sky. I thought my brother and buddy would crap themselves laughing so hard. I think that bird was hit with the stupid stick, or barrel. :)

I walked into a place one year in Feb. to watch the woodie show at dusk. They start to show up and I hear one comin' right to me. Drake following a hen and the hen is gonna lite right in front of me. At the last moment she sees me standing there and boils around a big tree. Well, the drake tries to follow but he flys into a limb, hits the water belly up and never even hardly kicks. My dog looks at me, I look at her, and I go "Back i guess" She brings it to me and I carryed it out wondering how I can make Mr. Greenjeans believe this one. Hated to leave it laying.

Chronic Wasting Disease

Or could have been the West Nile Virus

My Father is hunting with me this week. He is from AR. He killed a four point (first deer in eight or ten years) Monday. He fired seven rounds at two bucks WALKING across an open pasture. Never broke and ran. Granted they were at about two hundred yards.(eighteen month old deer who have never been hunted no doubt)

I told him we needed to have the deer checked for CWD because they were acting so stupid.
