Well......
Well......
Who all killed what. 3 of us killed 3 mallards, 1 gadwall, and 4 shovelers....kinda hard to tell them darn shovelers early....4 came in and 4 stayed. You would not believe the number of shovelers we saw this morning. We could have killed a hundred of them if we wanted to. AHHHH the joys of public land. Every time we would get a group of mallards to work some boneheads would open up on a single hooded merganser or a group of shovelers. I kid you not there was a group of people about 200 yards from us they shot 12 times at 1 hooded merganser and never touched it!

Well we took the boys this mornin, 2 adults and 3 youngins. Well actually it was 5 youngins counting my buddy and myself
. We didnt pull too much got 2 bluebills and a greenhead. Had a great time though. It was one of the younger fellas first time. Even ripping a hole in my boot and filling it up didnt dampen my spirits. We put the dekes out and were hidding the boats by the time we got out of em about 100 yds away there were 2 mallards splashed the water in the dekes. All we could hear was a bunch of hollering and talking, ducks must have been deaf not to have flared. By the time we got too them we asked them why they didnt shoot and the best we could get out of all 3 were we were afraid too move.
I just laughed under my breath and got in the blind.

"You can either shoot on the next pass or watch me do it." Winchester rules hehehehe .......Amen
great opening morning hunt
Four of us hunted a public resevoir near home in east MS rather than fightig the crowd on public land in the delta. The morning started out slow, actually we had no ducks at 7:30. We changed position and by 10:30 we had 18 ducks, mostly greenwing teal, with one blue wing, one greenhead, and one widgeon, (and a couple of merganzers
oops, it's opening day). I don't think we could have done better in the delta.

Shot one Greenhead at daybreak and it fell off sharp after that. We didn't do anything till after 8:30 or 9:00. Ducks started flying "OK" after 9:00. But 3 of us ended up with 12 ( one GH, 2 widgeons, 2 woodies, 7 gadwalls). We should have killed more but my hang master was one-shooting it. (not to mention the the fact that I can't hit because of my "bent barrel")
Hope you guys did better.

3 of us took 6 gadwalls Saturday morn & 2 of us took 4 mallards,6 widgeons and 2 gadwalls today. Hundreds of mallards if not thousands Saturday morn but could not work those suckers into range for nothing. Hard to get them working this morning as some "turd-cutter" in an adjoing spot skyblasting every few minutes. (had a good view of them shooting at ducks over 100 yards out). Mixed reviews around here. Had a neighbor with 5 hunters in Beaver dam not kill a duck, but 1/2 mile north of there still in Beaver Dam 5 limited out in less than an hour. 3 friends hunted a hole close to Beaver Dam and all 3 limited out with 4 mallards and 2 gadwalls each before 6:30 Sat. and didn't fire a shot Sunday. I didnt see a single smiling mallard all weekend but saw a lot of pintails. Gotta be careful.

It took till 9 a.m Saturday to kill our limits, but only took till 8 a.m. this morning. We killed mallards, teal, and a few greys. We did see an awful lot of pintails. Same here with mixed reviews, we just happen to be the lucky ones this weekend. Good luck to all of you this season.
A BAD DAY IN THE FIELD IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN A DAY AT WORK.
