Gumbo,
Hearing that Gus has left Ark. for the Co-OC position at Tulsa. Is there any story behind the scenes and what do you think will happen to the Piggies next year?

OK , here goes.
There's been talk the past few weeks that David Lee was going to be brought in. Lee as you may know is with the Cowboys and works with their qbs. Ccuttlebutt was that he was being brought in for the offense but be named OC and Malzahn would just then be a position coach, David would also have control over the play calling. Hence, Gus bolting. About this time a year ago, Lee was mentioned as a OC along with Cutcliff as well, Cut was offered more here but went back to Tenn because of family and stuff. Lee backed out at that time also. ITs was a giving that GUs was goingto be hired by either as a position coach. Sensing desperation they hired GUs and gave him the OC title, never the original intention. David Lee has worked with Mustain for years when he was here as a off season instructor particularly in Mitch's junior high years so he's no stranger to all that either. Bottom line is GUs didn't like the fact that he was going to get knocked down in title and the that he didn't have free riegn over the offense, supposedly hes going to get that at Tulsa although all that co-oc asst hc title is a bit much. Gus will be in spread heaven over there. There a good chance it was never gong to be a primary offense here.
I look for Ark to name a OC asap, it likely being Lee, with a dark horse named Coker lurking, Nutt and Coker go back to OSU in the 80's together.Lee is very popular with JJ down at Dallas and he's refused to let him out of his contract last year involving another pro team, I hear Frank is already talking to him now.
I don't care what they do, its very bad pr and theres no way to get around it. Not only that, they fired a friend who was director of FB ops last week too. His only offense was getting into it with Decker in ORlando, and Decker is very very tight with Broyles. I'm fairly pissed off and this may finally be the straw that broke Franks back and forced retirement is pending.
I never thought that damn Springdale team would be such a cancer but this cheet is getting old.

If your a running back Ark is your dream, Running backs at Ark get their carries and their yards. They are featured, period, end of story. Malzahn was hired cause he's a good coach, every one here knows that, this is very disheartening to lots of folks even the most ardent Nutt supporters

Wheels falling off the wagon??
Nope the wagon is Dmac had a flat but he's fixed. Again, scuttlebutt is David Lee. Again David Lee was a personal instructor of Mustain's. We just need a damn qb that can complete a ten yarder consistently, something the Golden Boy was iffy at best on last year. IF he goes, so be it. I hear something about teaching Dmac how to read the mid line option ala, Matt Jones.
Folks up here are in full meltdown only a bammer could be proud of. Its entertaining to say the least, Ar names a new oc by weeks end most likly tommorrow, its been in the works for two weeks.

The Hogs better make the most of 2007 that they can. After next season, their little run will likely be over as DMac and Jones will likely only play once more season and then bolt early to the NFL. And Hillis will have used up all of his eligibility.
Even if Mustain leaves, the Hogs will be loaded with talent in the backfield in 2007 with DMac, Jones, Dick at QB, and Hillis (assuming he returns for his final year). IF Monk returns at WR, then they will have a nice deep threat again.
BUT, if Monk leaves early for the NFL, then the passing game may suffer and AR may be even more one dimensional than they were this past season. And with so many OL graduating this year, it may be much harder next season to have two 1000 yard rushers, even with the talent of DMac and Jones.
The defense of the Hogs is losing some key players as well ---particularly Keith Jackson Jr. and that long haired DB (there are others as well).
Nutt, Broyles, and the Hog fans may regret losing Mustain, the receiver that transferred to USC, and Gus Malzahn ---starting about the 2008 season.
The wheels on the Hog bandwagon are getting a little shaky.

Note: Pot calling kettle black as LSU goes into meltdown on a weekly basis
What is the deal with Arkansas football right now? It seems the Springdale mafia is a rapidly spreading, malignant virus running crazy through the program. If I were an Arky fan, I would buy Mustain and his mama a ticket out of town -- he and the others are not worth it.
It is a soap opera in Fayetteville right now and it all seems to be linked to a town about 45 miles north of HogHeaven.

Delta, I think part of it was self-inflicted. Under pressure from Broyles for offensive changes to shake things up, Nutt begrudgingly brought in Malzahn, who was supposedly going to run a no huddle, hurry up, spread offense. Once Malzahn was on board as OC, the Hog fans (including Big Gumbo) starting hyping up the new spread offense of Malzahn and how it was going to be different from anything we had ever seen in the SEC.
Nutt promises the moon and stars to the Springdale recruits, particularly that they would run the same offense that they did under Malzahn at Springdale --- thus, they would have an easy transition and get lots of PT their freshman year. Fast forward to the 2006 season, and the reality of the situation became pretty apparent ---the Hogs were not going to abandon their traditional play sets for the rushing attack and go completely to the Malzahn no huddle spread offense --- not with DMac, Jones and Hillis in the backfield. Yes, Malzahn's influence was felt as they tweaked the offense to add a few wrinkles from Gus's playbook --eg the "Wildcat formation", but most of those wrinkles involved players other than Mustain and the Springdale receivers. Yes, Mustain and the Springdale receivers (particularly the one who transferred to USC) got a lot of PT for frosh, but it was not in the offense they were promised by Nutt.
This was a classic case of misrepresentations being made and coming back to bite some folks in the booty ---- Malzahn being led to believe that he was coming in to run his spread offense --- with most of the Hog fans believing it as well ---and then the Springdale recruits being promised that they would run Malzahn's spread offense to get them to sign with the Hogs. Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive.
And who will benefit from these mistakes --- apparently Tulsa.

Yes we were suppose to open it up, and yes we are very disappointed but the way those jackoffs up the road acted is ludacris as well, and its not 45 miles Springdale and Fayetteville share a border. The Cance is gone, the whole lot is gone and now the coach of a LSU qb commit is calling Ark saying the qb would be very interested in Ark cause he has a mancrush on David Lee.
