Dogs in Pickup Trucks

Postby Boykin » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:24 pm

I was just wondering how many of you let your dog ride in the back of an open truck? I was riding up Hwy 61N up from Vicksburg this morning and a guy with SC plates passed me. He had a goodlooking black lab in the back loose and as he passed the log truck in front of me the dog jumped out and was run over by the log truck. I don't care how well trained my dog was I would never let him ride loose like that.

That guy should be stripped and horse-whipped. If he even has feelings, no amount of suffering is enough.

That is absolutley terrible. That's exactly why my dog is always in a crate. That story ruined my day...

I have to admit I am guily of letting my dog ride in the back to the store down the road, but he lays right up next to the toolbox and I dont go over 40 mph, if that fast. I definately agree with putting him in the crate under any other circumstances b/c of a similar story a buddy told me.

You are the only one I know that can slide with this.
Drake won't so much as hold his head above the bed rail unless called.

I saw a guy with 2 pretty labs ON TOP OF THE TOOL BOX going down 82.
Dont like that at all.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

I don't like it either. IMO, A person driving in town or on the highway with a dog loose in the back of truck should be cited for neglect.

I love my dog but the idea that "no amount of suffering is enough" is a bit much.

Well all i can say is he better not get to close to the back of the truck while trying to hand me a ticket! Dog gonna eat his booty up if he do! I never put a dog in a kennel in my life. Train em right you don't have to worry about em jumping out or falling out!. I bet you cant throw mine out of the back of the truck! Im on my 6th one in the last 30 years and haven't lost one yet!

What about when someone slams through a stop sign and hits the bed of your truck? Far fetched but it could happen.

Dixie rides in the back all the time. She only gets the chance if I am going to the office or out on some country rode looking for ducks. Otherwise she is in the cab with me.

I kind of like the idea of her in the back of the truck as long as we are just puttering along. I would never-ever get on a road where I had to go the speed limit with her in the back.

Just me.
