pntailhntr wrote:Boy this was a good one!!!! I totally agree on the subject of the oos'rs and the people driving up the lease price. I've stated it on here a million and one times!! THAT is why we need to push to go back to the 3 duck limit! It would get rid of the OOS'rs and the rich Bastad's that are driving up our good holes because they CAN outbid us!!! Also it would kILL the Fockers that sell the FAKE holes to the OOS'rs that don't know any better!!!

Don't get me wrong, about OOS'rs, If you OWN your property, then I don't care two hoots about you, it's the ones that are coming over here LEASING the property and taking away our used to be free or affordable holes!! I've lost too many of those types holes back when the limit went to 6. When that happened, everybody and his brother went apechit about duck hunting! Lower to 3 ducks or even 4, and let us TRUE duck hunters RECAPTURE OUR SPORT!!!!!!

THAT IS MY SOAPBOX!! AND IT'S VERY BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You assume that wealthy people don't truly love to hunt, or are not "real" duck hunters. I am not wealthy, but I always chuckle at this logic.

If a 3 duck limit happens, and lots of lease land comes available that has been tied down, or available for purchase, don't you realize that the wealthy folks will be waiting to snap it up?

There ain't no free lunch, amigo.

I agree. I drive 9hrs (one way), spend approx. $5k per person per year in our lease (includes lease, house to rent, gas, food, etc.) We treat everyone we come in contact with respect. We're honored to be able to come to your state to hunt and y'all want to blame us for no ducks? Talked to quite a few farmers that said they won't lease to locals because they'ld hunt a spot out and then complain that the landowner jipped them by leasing them a shot-up hole. Plus they said OOS'ers take better care of their land. If this PO's you then you must be guilty. I don't give a rip if they close the season for a year - I'll still lease just to have it when they open it back up. Oh yeah, none of us are rich - we work OT all year just to be able to afford to do what we love - DuckHunting! When your on your fishing trips, vacations, drinking the weekend away - I'm working thinking about how many days left til duck season opens back up. Why in the heck would we go through all this if we didn't care about the sport? If you want to blame something - blame the weather

Glad to be here, Mud. I don't have many posts, but I've been on here for a few years. Just get tired of people thinking just because were from out of state that we don't share the same passion about ducks as y'all.

To anyone out there - Come to Ga. next year, spend a week at my house (I'll even feed ya), let me show you our wonderful waterfowling, then maybe you'll understand why we want to come west to hunt. I can guarantee some Merganzers, Woodies, and maybe some ringers and BB's. Oh yeah, if you time it right you might get on some teal too. If you want to see GREEN come early in the season when the leaves are still on the trees.

OK. I usually don't post any comments I just like to read what everyone has to say but I have seen this topic come up several times and thought I would put my two cents in although there probably not worth that. I just like to come to MS duck hunting and I guess took a little offense to the comments about oos's. 5-7 trips a year and I feel more and more like i live in MS. Actually maybe moving to go to school in Jackson next fall looking forward to it

deer hunting in Ga used to be pretty good...at least when I was growing up.... I've been through Sylvester, Ga....Its a miracle ya'll kill any ducks there....

I think honestly the past few years the lower duck numbers on this end of the flyway have made tensions worse because it tends to drive up the lease prices of the duck holes that do produce. Just my 2 cents, but poor duck numbers are more likely to drive the men that can't afford a good duck lease out of the sport, because the truly wealthy will always be able to buy a good duck hole. I think many may have missed that point. Supply and demand...if the demand doesn't drop faster than the supply of duck good duck holes does, then there will be no drop in prices, and if demand doesn't drop as fast as supply prices will rise...bad for the average duck hunter....

at this rate I'm gonna be looking for a duck lease in the Dakota's in a few years...then I'll be a damn OOS hunter....

Postby outlaw josey wales » Thu Jan 11, 2007 8:39 pm

i aint blaming noone for the duck season i am blaming oos for paying 5k a person on what we been paying 500 a year for. i have a placew or two but i got some ga boys trying to get them out from under me by overbidding but i got a cure for that if they get it --- the old missing boards trick--- you live 9 hrs and i live 9 mins from it so dont go trying to outbid something i have had all my life and having to pay a ton to keep thanks to ----oos boys --- that is my gripe and the hunting til lunch and then going right back and shooting it til dark!!!!!
