I have hunted in Alabama before. Talk about one helluva coot shoot!!. I wish someone would make video on how to shoot coots. I think I might could win an emmy or grammy or oscar, or whatever you win for videos. Maybe $10,000 on america's funniest videos.

Words of encouragement for theOOS guys(me included) Mississippi actually has ducks, which makes for a litlle better hunting than I am accustomed to at home. We are used to trying our ass off to kill a big duck in a hunt, much less a limit. Most of the season I have listened to MS residents gripe about duck numbers that I would be thankful to see at any time. Most of the guys I hunt around are driving five or six hours to come over there and hunt. Guess what? We are trying to kill good ducks when we get there so I am not sky blasting, poaching or going out of my way to screw up other peoples' hunts. I am thinking that if you invest in a OOS license, buy a camp house, spend two hundred dollars a weekend in gas.....so on so on.. chances are that you are pretty serious about the sport. The root of the problem lies in the commercialization of the sport. This has screwed up deer hunting to. The message we are getting these days is that unless you go kill a limit of greenheads every hunt you suck! You must buy the latest greatest gadgets, you must get the best land complete with heated pit blind and slaves to deploy and retrieve your decoys for you. I could go on forever about this, but the same has become true of deer hunting. Don't kill a 150 inch monster...well you have failed, you are just not a good ethical herd manager. Greedy people are causing most of our problems, and that greed is not contained by state boundaries. One last thought before I get off my soap box, the "what you get factor in the $30 an acre land over there ain't real impressive" the farmers are cutiing all the food out of the fields and then fillin a depression with water and calling it a duck hole. Please tell me no one from my state is causing this to become the norm. Ducks need food and it seems to be commonplace not to leave any around the holes. What is up with that? P.S. if anyone reading this knows anyone who was part of the opening weekend: shoot 35 minutes early, kill 4 times your limit and leave the birds in the field group of terrorists at Mahanna(that appeared to all be residents) congratulate them for abusing such a fine resource as the state has.

Hard to compare. Considering most people really only hunt doves one, maybe two days a year, it's hard to say if duck hunting already is like dove hunting. I've never hunted two or three dove fields day after day after day for an entire season like I have ducks. If I were to compare just opening weekends, I'd say there is some comparison just because I think everyone does well on opening day of duck season. It's not until this point in time in the season where the "slump" comes in. But for the most part, I think it may already be somewhat comparable by comparing opening days only.

But, a mere 20 years later, it apparently isn't even cool to wear panties anymore...so maybe things will come around....

I don't really expect much for the future of duck hunting, except the one thing I can help control, our right to hunt...as long as there is a duck season I imagine I will be content, at least somewhat.

I'm not sure I understand the parallel between duck hunting and dove hunting, except that for the most part to have a decent dove hunt you have to pay. And it seems to me that the closer a field is to being illegal the better the success rate. I hope that neither trend is echoed in duck hunting. Even though I lease property, it would still be a tragic loss to have hunters lose access to public lands on which they could have a good hunt.

Kill all the damn snow geese you see and maybe if we get those overpopulated SOBs in control the duck numbers will grow and if the weather is right they might pay us a visit.

Im optomistic, if I thought it would get worse, I wouldnt be giving them any of my money. All I can hope is that they are utilizing EVERY penny to go towards helping the ducks, and I have heard rumors of DU not really doing such....

Boy this was a good one!!!! I totally agree on the subject of the oos'rs and the people driving up the lease price. I've stated it on here a million and one times!! THAT is why we need to push to go back to the 3 duck limit! It would get rid of the OOS'rs and the rich Bastad's that are driving up our good holes because they CAN outbid us!!! Also it would kILL the Fockers that sell the FAKE holes to the OOS'rs that don't know any better!!!

Don't get me wrong, about OOS'rs, If you OWN your property, then I don't care two hoots about you, it's the ones that are coming over here LEASING the property and taking away our used to be free or affordable holes!! I've lost too many of those types holes back when the limit went to 6. When that happened, everybody and his brother went apechit about duck hunting! Lower to 3 ducks or even 4, and let us TRUE duck hunters RECAPTURE OUR SPORT!!!!!!

THAT IS MY SOAPBOX!! AND IT'S VERY BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does oos's include all the residents of Ms who do not live in the delta and lease spots there to hunt? b/c I am sure there is more of these hunters than there is out of staters or do they have the right to lease your hunting spots and drive the price up just because they live in Ms

I agree chhayah14. If you own land then you own it. If you don't then its up for anybody to lease.
