How long to stay?
How long do you guys have your dog sit and stay at heel when the hunting is extremely slow? We did an all day hunt this weekend and by 9:00 a.m. birds just totally quit. After a while I let the dog roam around and play for a bit. If you are standing by your cypress tree and scanning the skies, is Fido at heel beside you the whole time (even if you are there thru noon) ?

We did an all day hunt, but the birds stoped at 9? Heck man, if i wuz yur dog, id bite you! hehehe.
Depends on the dog, their intenstiy, level of experience and all that. I might give em a pee break, or just let them sluff of, but it'd always be when I said... they would be released, not decide to stop on their own.
I never miss a chance to sit and do nothing with a dog during the off season. Amazing how much it helps to just have a dog sit next to you and watch the sun go down, while the only action is turning up a cold one. Besides, everything is more fun with a lab at your side. travis

Travis:
We have gotten a lot of it worked out. Seems like the root is she has somehow gotten a little gunshy, and an unexpected gunshot is what sets it off. I have been slowly shooting around her, working closer to her, and things are getting a lot better. CC'd to "here" and working on de-bolting.

Either of my dogs will sleep on a tree stand... Sallie will nod off quick in her old age. Star will nod off once she thinks all the snack food has been eaten!
