a good friend of mine was telling me he and a friend hunted davis Island in a 14' walmart special john boat with like a 10 horsepower. Needless to say that was his one and only river hunt. I have had to work several capsizes where folks in john boats don't come back from the big muddy. I think I respect that monster just a tad too much to chance it. Hope your season goes well.

Vicksburgbob-
just wondering if your buddies tried to cross the river from the Ms. side or from the narrower La side by Palmyra landing? In the size boat you described, this would have been the only option and even that's if'y with a 10hp motor.

River Hunting

Postby Buckwabit » Thu Dec 21, 2006 8:05 am

Like I said in the previous post, I have been in the river numerous times. The boat I always use is a 1651 Alumacraft with an Offshore 60 HP Mercury. I have never had an problems.

I swear to god.
Please let this post die.
If you want to talk about specific holes, do it in PMs.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

I use a 24' bay boat with a 225 optimax, VHF, GPS and sometimes radar.

I hope you have enjoyed the spots this year. You may have a crowd now
