At your age, you are going to catch all kinds of heck blowing a call like that because it takes so much air. The Primos Yo Sista timber and Phat Lady open water are good calls, but they take air, alot of air.

And you sir, are "Da King" of HOT air!

Wandy-
First, if you want to learn to call good, you have to buy a good call. Avoid any call on a card encased in plastic or almost every call sold through most mass merchandiser sporting goods store. A duck call is just like a music instrument, if you want it to sound like a stradivaris, buy a stradivaris. Point is try to buy the highest quality CUSTOM MADE call you can talk your dad into buying. Second, I suggest learning with a single reed call instead of the double. Unless you plan on hunting only in the timber for the rest of your life, you need a call that can "RING" on a hail call as well as descend down the scale for the softer tones. Most double reeds can't and most beginners just accept the limited ability of the call the wonder why they can't "close" the birds. Third, as everyone else said,practice practice, practice and practice more. Buck Gardner and Butch Richenbach have great tapes. Or better yet, hunt with a good caller and study and learn how and why he calls like he does when he does. Most accomplished callers should love to teach youngsters how to call if they believe the kids trully want to learn. Good Luck. "Turn Up The Volume"

I would suggest a Grover Knoll acrylic single reed as top of list. Second, is a Greg Hood acrylic single reed. For a local call maker, he's better than most. Third, is the Echo double reed made of diamond wood and acrylic. This is the only double reed call I've found to "ring" like a single reed. And at $80 it cost less than 1/2 of a custom Grover Knoll.

Remember to use your diaphram to control the volume of air you blow, not your lungs.

I've used a computer mic before, but it greatly distorted the actually sound of the call. The best way I've found of recording is using a good videocamera, ie dvd or vhs-c. I've never heard of the program though.

An AKG CE100 with a neve pre-amp will make you sound pretty good, let me know if you two want to attempt that one evening. Pro-tools will do for sound what photoshop does in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

what would u suggest for around 50 bucks cuz i dont even know if my dad will let me spend that
