I have the same problem with my reed sticking and have learned a couple of tricks recently that have really made a difference:
1. J.W. McCollum (the 82 year old former guide/duck call sales guy at Mack's in Stuttgart) suggested I change how the calls hang on the lanyard. Hang the call so that the insert is pointed down, with one lanyard attachment at the insert (where most people have one attached) and the other other one at the mouth of the call (it looks like it will impede your blowing the call, but it really doesn't). The "southward" arrangement helps the spit flow out of the call when you are not blowing it.
2. The next trick works great, too. Take the insert out of the call, put your thumb on the edge of the reed, gently pull the reed back about 1/4" (but not so far it bends the reed), and then give a quick, high pressure blow at the call-side of the reed. Put the call back together again, and then keep on calling.
These have worked great for me, and maybe they'll help you, too.
Merry Christmas and happy hunting!
