Postby Sandy Creek » Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:05 am

I have a Lowrance I finder Go and sometimes it takes 20 to 30 min. for the thing to find satalites and get a position, is this normal for this brand and other brands?

My garmin Etrex Legend usually finds satelites in a minute or two.

I have gotton into the sport(if you can call it that) of geocaching. I don't know much about the Lowrance, but the Garmins and Mag's pick up in about one min. or quicker. It could be the age of your GPSr. I'm not sure. If you want to really know about your GPSr or any of them. Check with the geocachers. These guys know about GPSr's like MSDuckers know about ducks. They are all pretty much family oriented and freindly, I am a member of the MSGA (MS Geocachers Ass.) These folks would be glad to answer any ?'s. http://www.msga.net which is currently @ http://www.msgeocacher.org due to server problems. And you can also go in the forums on http://www.geocaching.com which is the main web site for the sport. Check it out. You might like it.

He could just ask Benny how it works. Benny would tell him all he wants to know about his GPSr. :?

My Garmin Legend does that sometimes, especially if I turn it off and the next time I turn it on it is 500 miles away. Somewhere in the menus there is a way to tell it to satellite search "from scratch" (obviously not the correct verbage), rather than based on it's previous position.

See if yours has something similar.

I have one of those lowrances and it does take a couple minutes if you are moving in a truck or something, but not near 20 minutes. There must be something wrong, or maybe your batteries are weak. Try plugging it into the charger and holding it outside your truck. If it does not link up in 1-2 minutes, send it back. They have a pretty good service department if you have the reciept.

I did that "search for satalites from scratch" deal last night, and it linked up pretty quick so I guess thats what I need to do if I'm in a different place when I turn it on, thanks guys.
