You ever had one of these mornings? Part II & III

Postby Deadeye » Fri Dec 08, 2006 9:06 am

Made it to my little hole this morning, busted ice the whole way. At 6:17, the first good groups of ducks landed in the decoys, mostly gadwall. I didn't shoot. Few minutes later, next good group of ducks landed in the spread, mostly gadwall with a couple of greenheads mixed in. Still no shots fired. Dog is starting to whine loud.. I correct him and he's just watching the ducks swim around and feed 25 yards from us. Next group comes in and same thing, no shots fired.

I hunted this blind Tuesday morning and limited in 15 minutes. Could have easliy done the same this morning.. but for whatever reason, I didn't pull the trigger.. just got caught up in watching them land and swim and eat. At 7am, I decided to pick up and leave.. so I ran them up and got out.

I will not be so "gracious" in the morning. Will be all business, just like Master Guide.

Been there...it ain't about the killin' to me. Half the time I go with buddies, especially if I'm taking someone new, I'll just prop my gun up and call, watch the dog work, etc.

Nope, had everything I needed.

I imagine every time one of those chunks ice hit my dog in the nuts on the way out, he wasn't real happy with me. But I think we both enjoyed the view and he learned a great lesson.... patience.

I did give him an extra scoop of dog food this morning for his good behavior. :D

Seriously though, sounds like a great morning! I, on the other hand, enjoyed the frosty morning sunrise from a freaking office window! :(

When I try to do something like that, I have to scrape dog hair off the surrounding marsh as my dog gets so excited, she literally blows up. I then have to go pick the pieces up and put her back together until the next hunt. She is still and quiet until they hit the water, after that ya' better shoot soon or she starts to sound like a beagle.
