Jerkin'

Postby wing shot 1 » Fri Dec 08, 2006 7:10 am

It blows my mind that people will spend tousands upon thousands of $ and are too lazy to rig up a $3.00 jerkstring. One of the most reliable, effective tools you can use.....

Sometimes i will only use a JS with 3 decoys...no other dekes. People laugh til the ducks fall in.

The most important part of it is a 3 foot peice of 1/4 inch elastic from walmart that cost about .80 cents.
Are you ready?

I am scaling back to a dozen decoys, plus 2 on the jerk string (with very little calling). This is what appears to be most natural in my neck of the woods.

Where in walmart did you find the long skinny bungee cord? Right now I have a few of the 1/4" mini bungee cords tied together on my jerk string, but I would like a nice long piece of cord for more movement in the spread. I've looked at wally world and lowes in starkvegas and can't seem to find any bulk bungee cord.

No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work out anyway.

Back to the wind, three decoys to the right, four decoys to the left, two on the string in the pocket (I use 6 feet of elastic cord so they can "swim" some, pull it in and let it out slowly as the ducks come in)....deadly!

bungee cord

Postby Up2Early » Fri Dec 08, 2006 10:43 am

salty,

Go to Home Depot. They sell "Canopy Tarp Ties" in a small plastic jar. It's a black bungee cord with an orange ball on the end. Take the whole thing apart and you've got a 12" bungee cord. It's all the spring you need.

Salty, He's not talking about the bungee cords I believe. I think he's talking about the elastic stuff you can get back in the crafts department where the fabrics are.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Thanks for the tips guys. I keep eye'n those big PVC bins with the looooong pieces of bungee cord holding in the rubber balls and things at walmart. I figured they must have some of that cord somewhere.

How do you rig your jerk string? What do you have on the backside of the jerk string - tie elastic/bungee to tree, weight, . . . ?

I use a 3ft piece of conduit with a carriage bolt at the top for a handle and another bolt down lower to stomp the conduit into the mud
