Pup Training

Postby Nate40302 » Mon Dec 04, 2006 6:05 pm

I just bought a new pup and was wanting to find a place that I could take for her to be trained. I want her to be able to do all the normal things as sit, fetch, heel, etc. as well as to be gun broken. I am not wanting to spend top dollar for training because I don't have alot of money for it. Does anyone recommend a trainer that will do a good job of teaching a dog the necessities of duck hunting without all the extra that charges the extra money. What is a good price that I should expect to pay for training?

You got 10 minutes a day to spare? Do it yourself......

Get Smartwork by Evan Graham, or 10 Minute Retreiver, and go at it. No money = no pro trainer.

Find a buddy that can help you and work with him when training.

I'm going this route, and their are many advantages to training your own dog, if you do it properly.

To do the things you listed doesn't take a pro but a pro could do all of the things you listed in 1 month. Most pros are 400-500 a month. I don't know of any cheaper than that. Take a look at the sticky on pro trainers.

You'll get what you pay for when it comes to discount trainers. My advice would be to spend the time and get some books and see what you can do with her yourself.

Buy "10 Minute Retriever" right now (google it). Start reading as soon as you can....

If you want to add to your reading get smartwork as mentioned.......

Make it fun for both you and the dog.
