The rut if looked at over a period of time looks like a bell shaped curve. A few will come in early and as time goes on the majority will come into heat. As time continues a few will come in late. Also those does that did not breed will come back into heat a later on.
Bucks are just like us males, ready to breed at the drop of the hat and so many people make a judgement that the rut is on cause they see a buck chase a doe. Well the fact of the matter is that they are ready and start chasing even when does arent quite ready.
Another misconception I always hear about is weather. Every one seems to think that cold weather triggers the rut when what is happening is deer tend to stir more to keep warm and we notice this and think the weather has triggered them to breed. False
Weather has nothing to do with this process.
As of this post, Im going to say that right now we (here in Greanda) are about a week to 10 days before prime time, freak nasty, rut takes place.
I hope this doesn't sound like im angry cause that is not the case. I just hear lots of misconceptions about the rut and im posting this for those that do not fully understand it.
