Crow, sounds like we need to take a lesson from them there city-folk that knows how to duck hunt & all... I recon you trained 'em well. One day, I'll be like them, with a new pick-em-up truck. lawdy, momma will be proud
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.
I went to go close a structure this afternoon, of course it took some hammering. When I started making some noise a couple hundred got up out of the slough. As time went on more started showing up to spend the night. I hope seeing that many birds this early is not like catching a fish on the first throw.

Hehe, them mallards in that borrow pit gonna be surprised come Thanksgiving! I've been watching 'em grow all year; when I shoot that blonde mallard I was telling y'all about, then we'll see who is laughing

I was on my way to work and rounded the corner and saw nothing but DUCKS. I had to rub my eyes a couple of times to make sure I wasn't seeing things, but sure enough about 150 birds were on the water. I was a little late to work, but I sat all of 15 mins and watched and listened. BRING ON THE SEASON.
Throw away those Wal-Mart calls and go get you a Rich-N-Tone!

Watched em come in for over a half hour this evening down at my hole. Sure pretty to watch. Heard a lot of them when i went out in the yard this morning in Beaver Dam. Hope they stay. You know in the past years we always seem to get a lot of early ducks that moved on right before season started

Scott, I thought I was the only one who worried about catching a fish on the 1st cast. I will purposely real it in as fast as I can on the 1st one. It's happened too many times; you catch one on the 1st cast and the day is shot...

She's a real ghost duck, I tell ya. I finally got 'er on video, with a mallard drake at her side. But to make things better, there were two little ones in a hatch of a dozen, that were blonde also. I suppose the gene is from a drake. Naw, this ain't your park duck, it's a blonde mallard. Just like on the DC video..and you know he don't lie. But hey, I haven't seen the blonde bluebill yet....that is the Holy Grail of duck hunting my friend!!!!

Duck Report
I am happy to report that I saw more big ducks on my place near Satartia yesterday (10/31) than I saw all last year COMBINED...My cousin and I have hunted the place for 7 years...We have averaged over 200 birds per year not counting last year when we bagged 6 woodies and 1 teal...The only mallard we even shot at was at least 400 yards high....I shot at him just to say I at least shot at a mallard...
Yesterday I saw 23 gadwalls and about that many woodies...No mallards yet but I bet they show up by this weekend...Lots of dove too just in time to save the 2nd season...
As wet as the Delta is, I seriously doubt much of the bean crop will be harvested and we've got a bumper acorn crop again this year...Water + beans + acorns + cold weather = fabulous duck season...The table is set- all we need is cold weather to have a fabulous duck season.
Happy Hunting!
