Ivomeck
Does anyone just use horse Ivomeck on their dogs for worming. If so how often?( once a month I assume) And how much? I was just wondering because someone told me that they had read somewhere that it was alright to do so. Just needed some other opinions before I gave it to them and my dogs died. This is only given assuming that my dogs have been wormed and have no know worms as of now. I do know that if they have worms and this is given it will kill the worms and possibly the dog as well. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

"Zimectrin" or "Equimectrin".One is a white paste, one a clear gell. Make sure you get the tube that has 50lb. increments. I give one 50lb. dose to all my dogs (8-15) large or small. My vet said a 50lb. dose is plenty for dogs 20-100lbs. You can find it at most feed stores. Swipe the gell/paste on your finger, and put between lip and gum of pup.

I use Ivermectin, undiluted, and have had great sucess with it.
It costsme about $50 a year to worm 10 dogs for 2 years. As oposed to approx $1800 for heart guard per year.
Speak to your vet about dosage and get them tested for adult heartworm before you start worming, if the have any adult worms the dog will die.
Also get them tested for intestinal worms and use horse products.
Ivermectin is the same product used in hearguard, ill be damned if im going to pay 20-30 times the cost for the same stuff but nicely packaged and in chewable form.

i buy it straight from the co-op. Give .1 mL per 10 pounds of bodyweight. Buythe injectable ivermectin and give it in the mouth once per month.
Have dog checked for heartworms before you start giving ivermectin.
You have to give it at exactly 30 days to prevent heartworm infestation says my vet.
I have used the injectable as above for 10 years on about 20 or so dogs and have never had one test positive for heartworms.

Same here... 3 dogs for the past 2 years and no problems. Like the others said, make sure they don't have heartworms before you start them on Ivomec. The label for the injectable that I give by mouth reads:
IVOMEC
(ivermectin)
for Cattle and Swine
1% Sterile Solution
The bottle is 50 ml, so at 0.1ml per 10 lbs. it goes a LONG way. I keep mine in the fridge and make sure you check the expiration date when you pick it up.

I'm sure the paste would work fine - I use it for my horses. I just haven't run the math for the dosing for a dog with the paste... or the math to see which would be more cost effective.
