Postby msbigdawg1234 » Sat Nov 25, 2006 12:24 pm

Well BW, BC, Turkeyman, and I went to see the Mahanna 500 this morn.It was a good time in the field.Got to see the race from a distance hear abunch of early shooting in the dark and have some guys really screw us up on a few working birds. But all in all it was a good hunt with some good friends. 12teal and 2spoonies.Had fun guys lets do it again. ( If we had shot early like everyone else we could have gotten some big ducks)

It was a wild one at Mahannah Friday Morning. Opening morning is the only time I hunt there unless it is in the middle of the week in DEC but opening morning is a tradition for my brother and our boys. Our total for 6 hunters was 32 birds. 16 teal, 3 shovelers, one woodie, and 12 mallards. Interestingly enough we killed all the mallards after 8AM once the dove shoot was over with. The four boys were worn out, out of shells, and very happy by the time we left about 10AM.

You have not lived a full life until you have witnessed the Manhana 500. There are just certain things you must do before you die, and this is one of them.

Just to give an example of the type of hunters that are out there, the guys that set up next to us (100 yrds) shot at least 125 times. No shot was under 50-60 yards. They came out with 5 birds. Our group came out with 15. Of the ones being checked at the front, I didn't hear of anyone killing more than we did.

Leave decoys and calls at home. They are not needed or usefull. If you did get a bird to circle you, when he went over the next group he would get skyblasted. So no need to call.

If you need to practice your 50+ yard shots, this is your place.

man that sux...i thought they had a 25-shell limit there (they did last time i was there, 3 yrs. ago), is it not being enforced along with the legal shooting time rule?

We gona change Bigwaters name to BigButtShooter. He can show bustem in the booty.Even though it gets real hectic out there it can still be a fun place to hunt at times.
