2007 Sunflower River Blues Fest

Postby Po Monkey Lounger » Mon Nov 13, 2006 5:16 pm

The Festival dates have been set for August 10-12.

To those who have expressed interest in going, consider this your engraved invitation --- (Joel, etc. ).

If you desire to attend, I would recommend making hotel reservations NOW. I recommend the Comfort Inn --decent accomodations at a good price.

Absent my death, or a tragedy, I will be there, most likely along with several of the Wooly Swamp crew. Any of you are welcome to come and hang out with us.

I stayed with Mr. Patel at the Budget Inn the last two year. I think I will upgrade for 2007. Po Monkey, can I make reservations just by calling the Comfort Inn or do I need to do it online through some booking website?

You can book the reservations this early at the Comfort Inn by calling Choice Hotels at 877-424-6423 or go to choicehotels.com. For some reason, the local Comfort Inn will likely tell you that they cannot accept reservations this early.

I can get free rooms from Mr. Patel if needed. He is a client of my brothers! Nice guy also.

Maybe, but I know for a fact they are not Chinese.

I personally don't care if its owned by space aliens. I've bunked there for a couple of nights, inexpensively, for the last 3-4 years, with no problems, and have safely enjoyed the festival. I'm not going there to make a political statement, just to enjoy some cool blues, cold brews, and good fellowship with good friends. IF you have a problem hanging out for a couple of days of your life with minorities of any ethnic background other than your own, then this festival is NOT for you.

When attending this festival, one will come in contact with white caucasions of English, French, German, Scottish, and Welch descent, blacks, orientals, Lebanese, Italians, Indians (dot and feather), Dutch, Norweigens, Jamaicans, Pakistanis, Cajuns, and folks/mutts of unknown origin (such as myself, BRF, etc.). It is a multicultural experience between folks from all over the country and the world drawn together by a common love of the blues. Get in where ya fit in. 8)

aahhhhsoooooo, don ho --I agree those accomodations would be nice.

But, when we tried to make reservations last year for the Shack Up Inn and the other new units they built in the old gin on the premises, they would not let us. It appeared that they were saving them for out-of-state guests coming to the festival based upon their responses when we pressed them for the reasons why. Maybe things have changed a bit since then. IT looks like it would be a fun place to stay.

I am a little suprised to see so many of you have attended the event. I don't usually go to that part of town after dark without a pistol.

Hope yall make it back and enjoy the festivities. That is not my cup of tea, but the people work hard to put it on and it has gotten bigger every year. It has really been gaining a lot of steam over the last 2 years. I hope it is even better for yall this upcoming year. Keep safe and have fun!!
There will be a day....

Po Monkey Boy, I was just messing! I have a "cutural diverse household " as I have addopted a daughter from China! In MS, she is a person of color! 8) I used to hang out at "Benny's Bar"(NO not that Benny!) in uptown Nawlins corner Camp and Vallance! Best free music and blues in da city. Band passed around a 5gal. Kentwood water jug and wanted you to,"Shake hands with Mr. Kentwood" and the tips they got was what they made that night! Was an old house with the sheetrock tore down on the inner walls and the band set up in an old bedroom and we watched them through the 2x4 studs! That was way cool! 8) And you guessed it! Benny was a black man! He did not like no trouble in his "joint"! Post up N.O. Expats. if'n you ever been to "Benny's Bar" Hell, Cyril Nevill used to get some players he was "trying" out for his "Uptown Allstars" band and play there alot!
