Good Topic. I would love to hear what brad is using. I heard they got some really nice equipment this for filming hunts.

I am going to buy the Gorilla tree arm this week. I'm sure its not the best one out there but I was going to give her a try.

I have a Gorilla and I use my sony camcorder. The only problem I have is every time I take it I either don't see anything or am too busy trying to or taking a shot that I don't get the deer on camera. Last year I was videoing a couple does, 6 pt, and a 4 pt and out came a good 8 pt and I was so busy getting ready to shoot that I didn't get the camera on him until after he was dead. I need to get somebody to take turns hunting and videoing but nobody else bowhunts with me and I don't care about getting gun hunts on tape.

Nitro,
Do you like the Gorilla tree arm? What, if any, are the problems with it?

Going to buy one this week and just want to make sure I'm not buying a total POS.

we tried the gorilla on a few hunts and figured out quick that everything has got to be 100% perfect to get good video while on the arm. Just cuts way down on range of motion. Now all we do is just shoot off the shoulder or if i can, sit the camera in my lap and flip the eyepiece up and use my legs as a rest. The larger cameras like the canon xl series are a good bit easier to shoot off the shoulder because the camera is much larger and easier to keep steady. We use a canon gl2 which has great pic quality but it is smaller than most which make it harder to keep steady while filming from long distances.

No problems with the gorilla. The only thing is what Brad mentioned with the range you can move it, but when you are by yourself you can't hold the camera and shoot. I tried another brand, I think is what Pine Ridge but it didn't have the stability the gorilla has. Another little thing is it is hard to set up where it won't affect some shots when you hunt by yourelf. It is hard enough to film with 2 people much less trying to do it by yourself.

the main thing is setting your stand up correctly for deer movement, it does not always happen just like you planned it but it does help. I use the lone wolf arm on a canon xl-1. My camera will wear you out if you have to hold it too long. It just takes a little practice to make it work

If I am shooting Video the camera is on Me. I don't hunt if I am videoing, or use larger cameras. I like JVC camera's I use a small DV camera and shoot it from the hip. Unless its for a professional video ie: ___ bucks per hour per camera then they stay in the studio. If someone want Me to shoot a video for home use or the hunting camp, then the a small camera is My choice. I dont get tired, the camera movements are small.

I dont think its cost effective to have a expensive camera on hunting trips the quality of digital video is so good that you dont need to buy a high end camera for home movies. This is MY opinion, I am sure some will not see any wisdom in My thoughts at all. Although I've been doing this for more than 15 years I still dont know anything.

Tunica,
If you've been doing this for 15 years than i would expect everyone here to listen to what you have said. 1 question though, it sounded like you don't use any type of support, i.e. camera arm or tripod, when you video hunts. If this is so, then how the heck do you keep the footage from looking like you shot it on a roller coster. All my footage taken while hunting will literally make you drunk just watching it.

Please give this young grasshopper some tips. I need to make sure i get good quality video of Chopper missing deer this weekend.

I heard that too maverick7. I heard they were working hard to make the head very user moble and user friendly. I think they are supposed to come out next year...
