Dixie is into the second week of her recovery. She has been kept up and only been allowed into the house. When can I start letting her out some? The vet told me to bring her back in four weeks.
Just like to hear from some who have experienced this.

This is my first time dealing with it so I am going strictly by what my vet says. He told me to bring her back in four weeks after the treatment. I frankly didnt know enough to ask if it could be postponed. She never coughed or acted like she had anything wrong with her.
Hate to hear it takes that long before I can hunt/work her though.

The first 4 to 6 weeks after the shot are the most critical. That is when the adults worms are turning loose and dieing. Keep the dog calm until you go back to see the vet for the next shot to kill the babies.
I have treated a stray coon dog for them and we kept him in a small pen and only let him out on a lease for the first 6 weeks.

I'd be a little pissed at that vet for not giving you all the facts FIRST! When my vet told me about it, I said something about hunting and he said, "NO WAY, I won't do it before or during Duck season, that is what this type dog lives to do and I"m not taking that away from him, come back in February and well take care of him"
Sorry bout that, lets just hope and pray there won't be a next time for you to KNOW what to do!!!!
