Opinion on Remington 11-87
Opinion on Remington 11-87
I've got a buddy who is considering buying one of these shotguns and he asked what I knew about them. I shoot a Benelli M1 and don't even know of anybody who has ever owned an 11-87.
Anybody have any experience with the pros and cons of these guns?

I use to shoot ducks with the 11-87 until I got sick of it hanging up in cold weather. I would keep it cleaned from the bolt down to the stock spring and it would still hang up in cold weather. My father had the same problem so we went in together traded both of them in for a couple benelli's....problem solved. The browning would also be another good option.

I hunted one for the past seven years. I ran approx. 10K rounds through it. It NEVER, I repeat NEVER hung up. I just upgraded to the benlli, not because of lack of operation, but I wanted a 3.5" gun, and I liked the feel in my hads of the Benelli as opposed to the 11-87. I don't think you can go wrong with an 11-87. I am also very hard on my stuff. my 11-87 got sanded once a year and hit with BBQ paint at the end of each season thanks to salt water exposure. I would buy another one if I had to do it over again.

You know. It's funny. I've hunted with many, many people who were shooting 11-87s and have never known anyone personally who had a problem with them.
On the other hand, I've only hunted with three people who were shooting Benellis, and TWO OF THE THREE had their barrels fall off.

The 11-87 Magnum is a piece-o-junk. Last season and the season before three guys in our club had nothing but trouble with them.
They all now own Extremas.
