What kind of spread for Teal?

Postby gwall » Wed Aug 22, 2001 1:59 pm

i tink any species of decoy will work, but more important than that is to have a teal whistle- i don't know how many times we turned teal around with "peep" "peep" "peep" - that ain't no bull

I just use about a half dozen hen mallard decoys (standard size) and a whistle. I use one of the 6 in 1 kind, I forget who made it.

I mix a Tablespoon of 'French's 'mustard and a 1/2 teaspoon of Kitchen Bouquet and rub it inside and out...usually covers 4 teal! 'Makes a real tasty spread.

Oh, you meant DECOY spread.....well, let me see.....how 'bout a dozen honker floaters ('cause the locals ALWAYS know the best places to eat ), 3 suzies (to let'em know the bar is open...and it's 'Ladies' Night') and a dozen 'mixed' BW teal to let 'em know it's not an 'all-gay' affair. BWAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

'Hope duck season gets here, soon!

i use about 12 to 15 hen mallard decoys. the older type flambeau's work better for me as the paint scheme on them is darker. i will separate them into 2 small groups about 15 to 20 yards apart and me sitting upwind of the groups as close to the middle point between them as i can get. the "peep" call works best for me. hope this helps.

I just throw about 12-18 dekes out of varying species. Use a whistle sometimes, most of the time teal see dekes and are hell bent on leather for them. You aren't dealing with rocket scientists during teal season. Throw some dekes out in a spot where they been hangin' out and you'll shoot at teal. If ya got teal dekes, use them, but if you don't I wouldnt' go buyin' more unless you hunt S. LA or S. MS where teal are a big part of the bag on a consistent basis. Just my 2 cents.

Guys, I'm not guessing on this one. I'm also not going to echo everything GC said, because he pretty much said it all. After years of trying everthing out there, and I mean most everthing. I shoot Beretta. I just don't see how you can go wrong...just my two cents....

I throw out all two dozen Featherlite GW teal decoys, mix in a couple of woodies, and yep the suzies.

The Duck Commander teal whistle and hen call turned a couple of flights over the res. last year.

Then you can "Spread-em"
