Dumbest thing you did when you started hunting..

Postby Shallow Grave » Thu Nov 09, 2006 1:40 pm

I have two..

My first was driving six hours on my first duck hunt..i can remember being so excited..when we get to the camp, i start unloaded my gear and realized i'd left my gun..I had to buy a new one..I hadnt left my gun since

The second dumbest thing I've done was not killing a big goose stone dead. After i crippled him i ended up chasing him through a corn field. It was zig zagging all over the place. I took 3 shots at it and never hit it. My buddies were laughing at me cuz it had me spin'n in cirlces. They could hear it honking and me cuss'n at it. Finally I got close enough, after I was out of shells, and gave it a good kick in the butt. It toppled end over end and I stepped on his neck. I got that goose, probably the most memorable bird that I've shot  :D

What about picking a fight with the guide in TX?
That was a good one.

This didn't happen to me, but the other day I was watching an outdoors show...really can't remember which one. Anyway, this guy had shot a turkey, was laying it all out in front of the camera trying to be all pretty and proper, politically correct and such. He goes to move the bird around and show its "fan" and it jumps up and runs off. Friggin Hilarious.

i was headed to my favorite public duck hunting hole in the delta, The primitive weapon season for deer had just ended, so i thougt. I left forest about 3:00 am and was headed to the swamp. Got abour 20 min from the ramp and they guy on the radio stated the date and weather and all that jazz. As i began to think, the guy on the radio was one day behind. i checked my phone only to find out that i was one day ahead! it was still primitive weapon season. so i turned around and drove the 100 miles back to forest!

went back the next day and smoked em'

Our guide decided to cuss us on the first morning of a hunt for not covering up when geese were circling . Shallow Grave told him that "Not even his momma cussed him like that and if he did it again, he was coming over there to stomp a mud hole in him". Or something to that effect, just alot meaner and with more profanity.

I was about 13, and, I left the 2 boxes of shells dad had bought me the night before a quail hunting trip at home. As we had left early in the morning, and, we where smack in the middle of the Arizona Strip, we couldnt buy any 20 gauge shells within a 150 mile radius. I found 1 crusty shell in the drawer of dads old van. I hunted ALL DAY with that 1 crusty bullet in 1 of my double barrels without pulling the trigger ALL DAY for fear of missing, thus, ending my " hunt". I dont forget my bullets anymore, and, Ill let some lead fly brotha

There are several things that I did some of the more memorable:

We were hunting some flooded beaver ponds and it took about an hour and a half to get back to where we hunted on foot. Well I set my gun down to help everybody else cross the first creek. Got everybody across and we headed for the honey hole. Got there that is when it hit me. My gun was still leaned up againt the tree by the creek. A good hour and 20 minute walk. Still got one duck. After my buddy killed his limit he let me borrow his and I got 1.

When I was a little kid my dad would wrap garbage bags around my legs for waders so I could go with him. Daddy told me to stay on the stump but I thouhgt I could follow him. Let's just say it was cold.

That same day I was sitting on the stump and daddy asked me to hold is double barrel. Well ducks started soming in I am 6 see ducks you guessed it. But I pulled both triggers at the same time. The water was still cold. Did a back flip. Daddy caught the gun before it got wet.
