Birds and ice - SK pics

Postby Anatidae » Tue Nov 07, 2006 8:37 pm

I had a great time going around trying to get shots of birds loafing on ice.

Here's a few canvasbacks with a ring-neck.

Image

Same bunch of cans with a few Goldeneyes......

Image

.....and a shot of mixed birds (mostly honkers and ducks) on the town lake.

Image

....another shot of the same lake one week later (this past Sunday morning).........

Image

Finally....here's the nicest 'landscape' photo I think I took (aside from the quality). I was on the way to the coffee shop to visit with some local friends this past Sunday......and passed by this pothole that we witnessed freezing one section at a time, day-by-day.....over the course of the 10 days we stayed in this area........my favorite 'lanscape' shot of the trip

Image

I apologize for the lack of quality in these photos.....I'm just a 'hack'. :?

Thanks......but I'd rather be up there, still.......I miss the birds! We thought we'd better come-on home while we could still get out of there.

We got our honkers, ducks and grouse.......but I would've liked to have gotten more video footage. It was just taking a toll on us old folks, ya know........

Actually, we were going to stay and GET some more footage, but the fields were starting to thaw-out, which would have meant we had to pack everything in and out on foot. We just happened to arrive when the ground started freezing. Everybody before us had to 'walk'-0in hunt because the fields were too wet to drive in. We were DAMN lucky!

We packed-in 32 Higdons in on foot, the first day........'bout 1/4 mile. After carrying the decoys (the heaviest thing we toted), we determined the ground was tight enough to support the truck and got the rest of the stuff in and out.....along with the 16 geese we ended-up with that day. It could've been real ugly! :? .....but again, our timing was perfect (purely by accident, I assure you).

I'm going to design a different trailer for wet conditions, in case we face the same problems in the future.......one that has a spot for the 4-wheeler, too.

The thought of frozen ground in October gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Thanks for sharing the pics and the stories. Keep both coming!!

Still waiting on the video though

Iron Grip.....it'll take me a little while on the video thang.......and will need Tunica to help me get it on here for ya'll.

But I just watched one tape on the TV screen and it's got some good shots of ducks clouds at close range......even got some standing in the decoys..........and one honker that stayed around for 20-30 minutes, feeding around in the decoys. I'll work on it when I'v egotten some sleep.

Naw, I'm not in the same league with the Duke.......it'd be more like...."Pee Wee Herman goes huntin'"

As far as Anne.......she's 'bad' enough to be her own star. What you see is what you get.......and you better not screw anything up!

OMG I mention Popcorn and the next thing you do is mention Pee Wee Herman...you know the dude that got caught with something else in his box of popcorn. On second thought Anne will have a Great Hunting Video to show everyone as for You...Id's will need to be checked at the door.

Beautiful pics Randy, It's very nice to see pictures of Cans that don't have Bud light on the side of them.
