Most of the shops I know of that have it (not sure if it's anectine or a derivative) get it from vets. It comes in a "puff" bottle (one where you squeeze it and the powder blows out. Not something I really want to be playing with around a razor sharp broadhead. :?

folks - I have seen the use of pods in the field since before some of you were conceived. This is not something that only inexperienced hunters use or have used in the past. Initially, I think that balloon pods were used to help quicken the kill for a higher recovery rate. Understand that a well placed shot is often required for the poison to enter the blood stream. Folks that used to hunt with a classic Pearson or Pounds recurve or a Bear Whitetail hunter will be the first to tell you that a pass through shot was less frequent than today. Regardless, I do think that pods give a false since of being able to kill at longer distances and the outcome is often a poor gut shot with a low recovery rate.

Bows now shoot at over 300 FPS and broadheads are more lethal. I do not think that the use of pods today is required or practical but there are still some old timers or extremely seasoned bow hunters that can shoot the nuts off of a fly at 40 yards that still use it.

I don't think that you can classify how "good" a hunter is by their choice to use or not use a pod.

I have used it but dont now. I found that I was killing them without it. Sometimes the pods wouldnt open and sometimes I believe i got poison that was very diluted. Anyway I believe that nothing is better than patience and shot placement. As a former proponent, I am against it!

Just to reinterate my theory, this weekend at a party I overheard a guy talking about bow hunting and I just kinda listened in. He was talking about his son bowhunting this year and he is only 11 years old. I had to jump in as I was a little intoxicated and I just wanted to get a reaction since the party was a little dull. I asked what pound bow he was shooting and what draw lenth. 40lb draw weight and like 22 or 24 in draw. Now everyone here knows just how fast his arrows are flying. I asked if he had ever actually SHOT a deer and if they ACTUALLY recovered it or was he teaching his son it was ok to just fling away and maim em and we learn lessons that even coons and coyotes got to eat too. He said he hadn't shot a deer but was eager to tell about a hunt last week where a doe was 20yds away but a nice 10pt was coming about 100yds further. Shoot the doe or wait. Told his son to wait on the big one. Was his son nervous I asked. Hell yea he was shaking everywhere and all over the place was his response. I said now do you think a 40lb bow at 20yds being shot by an 11 year old at a 130 class buck was a smart idea on YOUR part? He said why not. Just proved my point and I left him with you wouldn't ever hunt on my land with that kinda thinking. HArd enuf for kids to shoot a 243 at a deer and I have no problem with them doing so but a bow?????? Use a little sense.

Try about 200 mg!!! That aint nowhere near a pound. First it affects your muscles like arms legs etc. Then it hits your lungs and then your ol pumping station. Then you die..... unless you have someone that is there to do cpr for a little while because the stuff has a short life but once you get it in you it is too late to and you can't reverse it. It is the same stuff the hospital uses only in a powder form. That vet obviously didn't know what he was talking about. Anectine or succynel choline is what is used. Look it up. It is dangerous in very small doseges. Don't get gator started on its power.
