Saw a Mythbusters episode where they tried to get this effect from a gun. Wanted to do it like the cartoons and stick something in the end (like Bugs Bunny's finger/paw to Elmer Fudd's gun). It never worked out until they welded the barrel shut and it still didn't look anything close the these pics!!!

Yeah me too, i believe they used an actual persons hand and encased it in ballistic gel to get the disired effect of having someone plug the end of a barrel with a finger. Needless to say the barrel didnt have that effect and the hand is blown to bits.

did that to a remington .270 one time with mud in the barrel. Mine split into two peices, left and right. Mine only split about 10" back. I shot at a deer and heard a weird sound and my hand was tingling. When I noticed the barrel it scared the hell out of me.
