Nah I aint gonna mount it , I already ate it !! plus I wanna get last years bufflehead mounted before anything else, I got my pictures back Im gonna try to post a pic of the bird later

I had the most amazing thing happen to me during the regular season a couple o' years ago........had this BW teal come into the decoys and by the time the dog picked it up, it had transformed into a hen spoonie. Damnedest thing I ever saw.........it flew just like a teal and had pointed wings and was the same size that you might expect for a teal......but it turned into a spoonie.

Bust'em......you undoubtedly have a hybrid....I just flat-out mis-identified mine......coulda had something to do with the low light conditions plus the fact that I was under pressure to shoot it before my wife had a chance to.

Speaking of mis-identification.........it'd been years since I'd seen a sprig. Again, it was an overcast morning and this bird flew over going away from us. Man, that was one goofy lookin' excuse for a duck.......'told my wife, "It's a 'spoonie'". I let it get out about 50yds and hit-it with a chop-chop call (just to see what it'd do). Well, when it banked I saw it was a Sprig and told her, "Hey, I think it's a pintail"......just prior to my gun goin'-off.

Oh, you talk about P.O.-ed!........she thought I set her up, on purpose, so I could shoot the pintail........I'll never hear the end o' THAT one!

ok I was just making sure yall werent jerkin me around, most people jump to speak at what the think is the obvious before they have any conseption of the matter at hand,I happen to think itsa hybrid , and so does my buddie who has seen plenty of both species,anyway ill try and post a pic asap and yall can make your own assumption

I was working in the taxidermy shop of a friend of mine in Selmer, TN a few years ago when a local hunter showed up with a green-headed sprig. Only hybrid I have ever seen but it definately was one. It does happen. Since that time I have been told that it actually happens pretty often.

Well, now I'm stumped. Is this a Spoonbill, a BWT, or a hybrid? I shot him this morning. I saw the large "spoon" bill from a far, but was surprised to find it planted into a greenish head opposed to the coloring of the rest of it's body.

It really looks too much like a BWT with an oversized bill and a greenish head for me to say it's a true hybrid. Any other opinions?

'Looks like you may have a hybrid, there. Teal and 'Bootlips' feed the same way......and their bills are very similar in shape. But the teal bill is not quite as broad as the one in the photo. Teal also have yellow and black motteled legs....your duck has orange....like a bootlip. Then there's the white face patch like a BW Teal. Greenish head is questionable. It IS an unusal bird.......and pretty in it's own way. I'd have to think about having that one mounted just for the awsome detailing on those wings. That's really something.

Likes like a hybrid to me. Pretty cool bird though. You gonna mount it? If not our museum may be interested in it. Just a thought.
