So what your saying is the lake is privately owned? So I guess Lakes Lee, Washington, and Ferguson are too? According to your logic that would seem so wouldn't it? Or maybe you are one of the few folks who hunt Lake Jackson and want to keep it for yourself!

I think he's saying the ramps are privately owned. They don't mind people fishing it though. I assume there truely is no public access.

There is a county owned road running right by the ramp. The ramp may be leased to the MDWFP but that still should make the lake a public lake.

If the lake itself IS privately owned, then why does the MDWFP have a special 2 bass limit on it? If its privately owned then all it amounts to is a 400 acre pond no different than any other private pond on any one else's land. To my knowledge the MDWP does not regulate any other private ponds in the state.

What we need is a utility truck, the kind with the boom that lifts workers up to fix power lines. Just load up two hunters at a time, and swing them over the 10 feet of private property, and onto a piroge in the water. Then pick em up at noon.

I have always been told that Lake Jackson was privately owned also, it makes no sense about the ramp but I do know it has a cable and lock across it durring the winter months.

I emailed a guy at the mdwfp and he should get back to me sometime tomorrow hopefully. I asked if the lake was public or private and why we couldnt hunt it if the MDWFP had a ramp on it. I will post his remarks when I get them

The ramp is private..according to the website it lists a $3 launch fee. This means whoever owns the ramp can choose to let you launch there for a fee. They could close it whenever they wished, since it is not a free, public boat ramp.

If they close it, then there would be no public access to the public water.

Same way with all pay to launch ramps on public oxbows. If the ramp owners decided to close the ramps and there were no free public ramps (like the ones MDWFP leases for public use) then there would be no public access unless you could come in from the old river chute out of the public river.

When the MDWFP leases a boat ramp, they find a landowner willing to lease an acre or two of land to put a boat ramp on. The MDWFP builds a ramp and the public can launch there free of charge until the lease expires (usually 20 years). Many private individuals build their own ramp on their land and charge a fee to launch into the public water.

Remember, the land is private even though the water is public. You can't trespass across private land to get to the public water.

you claim all water is "public"? you think property lines stop at waters edge? Ever hear of a "patent deed"? All those deeds over there run to the center of the lake! If one side doesn't own it the other does IT"S POSTED!
