Bottom line: neither you , nor anyone else has the right to dictate to others when they should go to church, when they should glorify God, and whether their forms of worship properly glorify God. We don't live in a theocracy, as they do in the much of the middle east. And thank God for that.

Many times in my life my passion and desires are off but If we have God as our passion and desire we will be in Church.

Webster defines the Sabath as a day of rest and generally recogonised on Sunday for rest and worship..now for me there is no room for interpretation or justification, when I hunt on SUndays (and I do) I recognise it as wrong and know I should be in church (the building worshiping with others)

not enforcing or forcing it on anyone, just the way I see it, when I hunt on Sunday I am not observing the day as one of holiness and rest...no grey area...just black and white

of course if I was a lawyer I could probably read other things in to the scriptures and interpret some things as grey

I know the rest, and nowhere does it say that hunting is not "rest". The scripture says you should not "work". And the Bible scripture does NOT define the Sabbath day as our "Sunday". According to the Bible, if you work six days, and on a seventh day, remember the Sabbath, then you are following God's commandments. God did not ordain "Sunday" as the Sabbath, man did.

The Sabbath was a day set aside for rest and worship. God commanded a Sabbath because human beings need to spend unhurried time in worship and rest each week. A follower of God who both goes to church and goes hunting on Sunday, according to my Bible (King James version), cannot be said to be in violation of God's commandment with respect to the Sabbath.

Now show me where the Bible says that worship must occur in a church building.

Using this twisted logic, I could make the same case for anything you do on Sunday (or any other day) that does not involve actual worship (being in church, prayer, etc. ). Are you telling us that you spend all day Sunday in church or in prayer? You do nothing for rest and relaxation on Sunday? Do you watch tv? TV, unless you are watching a religious program, using your logic, is a distraction from God on the Sabbath.

I happen to think hunting is much more relaxing and restful than sitting on the couch watching tv ---better for you too.

Yes, interpretations are different. There are many "good christians" who claim that we are fobidden to dance, forbidden to sing songs a certain way, etc. Yet, you will find no such prohibitions in the Bible. In fact, with regard to song, the Bible says, make a joyful noise unto to Lord ---that joyful noise could be in the form of traditional church hymns, but also could be in the form of jazz, blues, rock, country, classical, or other forms of music. Yet, there are those who would "bristle" at a nontraditional form of music being sung in their church.

"Rest" = recreation, whether it be in form of sedentary activity or something that requires the muscles to engage. It is rest from your "work".

I chose to spend my Sunday's in church, getting recharged. Church is for my benefit, not God's. I teach a Sunday School class, so I have go get a substitute teacher to take my class and explain to them why I am not there. I am responsible to those in my class also.

I am also setting an example for my kids. My son & daughter watch every move I make, and notices how I prioritize everything. And being married, if I go hunting - my wife has to make a decision.... stay home, or go to church without me and answer that question "where's Michael ?" Not that they are being nosey, but they are concerned... and they care for me.

My dad was a hunting & fishing fool. But he almost never missed church for any reason. I guess I got my priorities from him. And his father was the same way.

There are times when I travel out of town to fish or hunt, that it just makes sense for me to miss church on Sunday. But I have six days for me. I try to set aside one day to recharge my religion.

I have been known to skip out at the end of a season to hunt. But I try not to make a habit of it.

I also do not preach my beliefs. We are all big boys and girls, and we get to make our own decisions. If you chose hunting over church, that's cool. No skin off my back. Yes, I will probably be in the duck blind a Sunday or two this year. But most of the time, I'll do church in the morning and hunt in the afternoon... Because it is what I enjoy. I enjoy church and worship. I also enjoy the duck blind.

Po, we could have church on this verse... It's very misunderstood. This is a commandment given to the Jewish people, and we try to see it through our modern American New Testament eyes, .... and we miss it. There are many books in the New Testament about applying Old Testament law to people of faith. But as my grandmother would say, that's a whole nuther lesson...

the original word for holy in the Bible denotes seperate or distinct. (not necessarily pure and without fault) It tells us Christians to be holy - or different or seperate from the world.The Sabat, Shabbat, or Sabbath day was a day set aside to be different for the Jewish people. They were in an agricultural based economy, so the thought was for them not to go out to the fields and plow, but for the day to be different. Set aside as a day of rest & worship.

Thats what im talking about mud. Even if you cant make that get outa the blind at 10 go to church for what is usually about 45 mintues (in the small churches around small towns) and then grab some food and head back out for the evening hunt. it all works out. Man its great being Catholic. Dont forget the post hunt beer.

I will say this and I will let it be and move on.
I was created for His purpose and For His glory and since the bible does say that the church is the bride of christ I cant think of a better place to worship and praise (sing and dance) my God and Savior. We are not just called to worship HIM in church but with our lives every single thing I do I try and make it for his glory if it is not then I am doing it out of vain and for my own gain. I am not condeming anyone for hunting on sunday I have many times, I give into the flesh everyday thousands of times a day. It saddens me when I think about the passion and desire I have for the outdoors and how much time I spend preparing for hunting and reading about hunting as to the time i spend with My God.

Many have disagreed with this statement I made in the above post. And the funny thing is that these are not my words ---they came verbatim from the footnotes or comments provided in my wife's "Life Application Study Bible" , New International Version -- a Bible given to her by her parents a few years ago --the same Bible she carries to church every Sunday and uses in her Bible study groups. Interesting.


And that is why it is great living in a free country, with constitutional rights prohibiting the government from establishing religion ----because without that constitution, we would no doubt be subject to interpretations of religion and beliefs different from our own --some even made up out of thin air.

Hebrews 10.25 is a New Testament verse regarding regularly gathering with other Believers for the purpose of worship, bible study and christian fellowship.

In addition, Jesus made it his custom to go to the Synagogue weekly. See Luke 4.16.

I Corinthians 16.1-2 gives further insight into the fact that the early NT church met on the first day of the week(Sunday). I think this was in order to not interfere with the Jewish custom of Saturday worship.

You can't be an honest student of the New Testament and not see that weekly gathering with the saints was the pattern set for us by the early church (led by the Apostles who walked with Jesus).

Wingman probably said it best-- don't forsake the church on sunday; adjust your plan a little and you can do both.
