Banded Dove

Postby judge jb » Mon Sep 23, 2002 8:06 am

turned down opening teal hunt for a dove shoot at Hell Creek WMA and came home with a banded dove... not much glory or history behind this bird.... he was banded earlier this year by MDWFP at thr management area......haha.... a band is a band.....

they had a youth shoot last saturday and a shoot this past sat for all... over 1200 birds were banded and only 5 were harvested... that leaves alot of birds to give us info in the future.... they will have the banding program again next year at two locations.... trust me, you cant see jewelry on a dove, only place i know to hang it is on a shoe string... some kind of small....haha.... be sure to check your birds from now on....

Great Judge, I have two and mine was the same way killed close to where they were banded. Makes you wonder if they migrate as much as the feds think. I killed mine some 10 years ago.

'JB'......if you have a call lanyard that has the little 1-1/2" long spring that holds the call in the loop, the band fits nicely between the spring and your favorite call........'just have to look hard to see it. Just don't forget it's there if you take that call out of the loop.

:D I never knew that they banded doves. Good job judge. Years ago when I thought that I was a quail hunter, a man I was hunting with killed a banded woodcock. If I remember right, it was banded in Maine. I hope that you have a great week. Jack
